Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Level After a Stroke
Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of statins as the primary prevention for patients with a high serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level and as the secondary prevention after an acute coronary event have shown that lowering serum LDL-C levels reduces the risks of myocardial infarction, stroke, and vascular death. These trials included stroke as a secondary end point but not as an entry criterion. The benefit of LDL-C lowering to reduce the risk of ischemic strokes in primary prevention trials and for patients with coronary heart disease is not necessarily seen among patients who have had a stroke. Cardiovascular disease risk, awareness, and treatment in people with epilepsy
CONCLUSIONS: Participants with epilepsy had increased ASCVD risk, despite similar or better awareness, treatment, and control of individual risk factors such as diabetes and hypertension. Our results suggest that epilepsy is associated with numerous health behaviors leading to cardiovascular disease, though the causal pathway is complex as these variables (income, depression, diet, exercise, smoking) generally served as confounders rather than mediators.PMID:33690068 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2021.107878

Undertreatment of Vascular Risk Factors in Patients with Monocular Ischaemic Visual Loss
Conclusions: Approximately one-third of patients with ocular ischaemia had ≥3 vascular risk factors with recurrences higher in these patients. Yet only half of those with previous ischaemic ocular events were on antiplatelets or statins. Effect of High-Dose Atorvastatin on Renal Function in Subjects With Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack in the SPARCL Trial Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— This post hoc analysis suggests that atorvastatin treatment may improve renal function in patients with prior stroke or transient ischemic attack with and without chronic kidney disease, and that atorvastatin treatment may prevent eGFR decline in patients with stroke and diabetes mellitus.
