Commercial video games in the rehabilitation of patients with sub-acute stroke: a pilot study.
CONCLUSIONS: An interdisciplinary rehabilitation approach supplemented with semi-immersive virtual reality seems to be useful for improving balance and postural control, functional independence in basic activities of daily living, quality of life, as well as motivation and self-esteem, with excellent adherence. This intervention modality could be adopted as a therapeutic tool in neurological rehabilitation of stroke patients in subacute stage. PMID: 28990643 [PubMed - in process]

Beliefs of rehabilitation professionals towards guided self-rehabilitation contracts for post stroke hemiparesis.
Conclusions The strategy of asking patients to perform exercises alone, in the practice or at home, is still not accepted by a large proportion of physical therapy professionals as compared with students or with physicians. Most therapists still see a <5-h weekly duration of exercise as sufficient after stroke. Motor recovery beginning 23 years after ischemic stroke
We report a remarkable case of stroke recovery beginning 23 yr after a severe stroke due to embolization from the innominate artery and subclavian artery, resulting from compression of the right subclavian artery by a cervical rib. The patient had a large right frontoparietal infarction with severe left hemiparesis and a totally nonfunctional spastic left hand. Standard operating procedures improve acute neurologic care in a sub-Saharan African setting
Conclusions: Implementing SOPs is a realistic, low-cost option for improving process quality of neurologic emergency management in under-resourced settings. Classification of evidence: This study provides Class IV evidence that, for patients with suspected neurologic emergencies in sub-Saharan Africa, neurologic SOPs increase the rate of performance of guideline-recommended procedures.

Motor recovery in post-stroke patients with aphasia: the role of specific linguistic abilities.
CONCLUSIONS: Motor function at admission resulted as the variable that most affects the motor recovery of post-stroke patients with aphasia after rehabilitation. A linguistic test requiring also non-linguistic abilities, including attention and working memory (i.e. Token test) is an independent predictor as well. Effects of virtual reality for stroke individuals based on the International Classification of Functioning and Health: a systematic review.
DISCUSSION: The effects of virtual reality on stroke rehabilitation based on the ICF framework are positive in Body Function and Body Structure. However, the results in the domains Activity and Participation are inconclusive. An assessment of the management of spasticity in Spain: the 5E Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Most of the patients have post-stroke spasticity. Moreover, botulinum A toxin was the most commonly treatment applied to patients with spasticity. Effectiveness of functional electrical stimulation in stroke patients: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: Functional electrical stimulation shows an improvement in the quality of life, motor abilities and gait in stroke patients. It is more effective associated with other physiotherapy techniques. Functional electrical stimulation alone does not provide better results than other physiotherapy techniques. The implementation of the technique in more than one muscle group, triggering impulses by active movements and associating with other interventions, is the best approach to application of functional electrical stimulation.
