Benefits in quality of life following an obstructive sleep apnea screening and treatment program in patients with acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Although more evidence is needed, a significant improvement in QOL was suggested after our OSA intervention, particularly in patients with good CPAP adherence.PMID:36782347 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7604.2022359

Carnosol Inhibits Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury by Promoting AMPK Activation
CONCLUSION: Carnosol has a protective effect on ischemic stroke, and this effect is achieved through AMPK activation. Our study demonstrates the protective effect of carnosol on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury and provides a new perspective for the clinical treatment of ischemic stroke.PMID:36775042 | DOI:10.1016/j.brainresbull.2023.02.003

Dysphagia assessment in ischemic stroke after mechanical thrombectomy: When and how?
ConclusionsPSD is a frequent finding both immediately within 24 h after extubation, as well as in the short-term course. In contrast to common clinical practice, to delay evaluation of swallowing for at least 24 h post-extubation, we recommend a timely assessment of swallowing function after extubation, as 50% of patients were safe to begin oral intake. Given the high amount of severe dysphagic symptoms, we strongly recommend application of instrumental swallowing diagnostics due to its higher sensitivity, when compared to clinical swallowing examination. Furthermore, advanced age, as well as prolonged intubation, were ide...

Cholestyramine resin administration alleviated cerebral ischemic injury in obese mice by improving gut dysbiosis and modulating the bile acid profile
In conclusion, Obesity induces gut dysbiosis, worsens stroke outcomes, and perturbs the BA profile. The dysbiotic microbiome is an important linkage between obesity and stroke. CR confers metabolic benefits and neuroprotective effects in obesity, perhaps by modulating gut microbial composition and BA metabolism.PMID:36179877 | DOI:10.1016/j.expneurol.2022.114234

The structure, processes, and outcomes of stroke rehabilitation in Ghana: A study protocol
ConclusionThe study protocol will provide a comprehensive overview of the structure, process, and outcomes of stroke rehabilitation in Ghana, incorporating both conventional and complementary treatment and rehabilitation into the stroke recovery journey. It will also inform clinical practice, with new insights on the experiences of stroke patients based on their choice of rehabilitation pathway.

Formic acid induces hypertension-related hemorrhage in hSSAO < sup > TG < /sup > in mice and human
In this study, 42 hemorrhagic patients with hypertension and hyperlipidemia and 42 age-matched healthy controls were enrolled. The contents of serum semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO) and formic acid (FC, FC is a final product of SSAO through the oxidation of endogenous formaldehyde, which results from the enzymatic oxidative deamination of the SSAO substrate, methylamine) were examined in the patients after stroke. Hemorrhagic areas were quantified by computer tomography. In the animal study, hemorrhagic degree was assessed by hemotoxylin & eosin or tissue hemoglobin kits. The relationship between FC and blo...
