Kinematic descriptions of upper limb function using simulated tasks in activities of daily living after stroke
Hum Mov Sci. 2021 Jul 10;79:102834. doi: 10.1016/j.humov.2021.102834. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAssessment of upper limb function poststroke is critical for clinical management and determining the efficacy of interventions. We designed a unilateral upper limb task to simulate activities of daily living to examine how chronic stroke survivors manage reaching, grasping and handling skills simultaneously to perform the functional task using kinematic analysis. The aim of the study was to compare the motor strategies for performing a functional task between paretic and nonparetic arms. Sixteen chronic stroke survivors were...

Cerebral venous thrombosis following COVID-19 vaccination
We appreciate the literature review by Abdalkader et al.1 to summarize the clinical epidemiology and features of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Based on the meta-analysis performed by Baldini et al.,2 the estimated proportion of CVT cases among hospitalized patients with COVID-19 was 0.08%; therefore, it is not surprising that COVID-19 associated CVT had not been given much attention compared to the more common deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism events in this patient population.

Association between estimated glomerular filtration rate and clinical outcomes in ischemic stroke patients with high-grade carotid artery stenosis
Chronic kidney disease has been identified as a risk factor affecting stroke prognosis. High-grade carotid artery stenosis (CAS) is associated with distal hemodynamic compromise. The association between the es...

Rates of Vascular Events in Patients With Migraine: A MarketScan ® Database Retrospective Cohort Study.
CONCLUSION: Our findings provide recent rates of vascular disease in patients with migraine. In the future, this information will be useful to help inform clinical risk:benefit decision making when assessing the use of therapies such as CGRP antagonists for migraine. Anticoagulant approach in COVID-19 patients with cerebral venous thrombosis
We appreciate Klein et al. [1] for reporting the case of cerebral venous thrombosis accompanied by hemorrhagic infarct in a young patient with novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The reporting of such a case would raise the awareness of the possibility of the occurrence of cerebral venous thrombosis in the course of COVID-19, especially among the young adults present with COVID-19 and neurological symptoms.

RAcial Disparities in Ich after IV-tPA and Neurointerventional Treatment (RADIANT)
Objective: To study the rate of symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (SxICH) and major systemic hemorrhage (MSH) after acute stroke treatments among different ethnicities/races. Background: Studies have reported ethnic/racial disparities in intravenous tPA treatment (IV tPA). The adverse outcome of tPA and/or intra-arterial intervention (IA) among different ethnicities/races requires investigation. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients from an IRB-approved registry between June 2004 and June 2018.

Intermittent theta burst stimulation enhances upper limb motor function in patients with chronic stroke: a pilot randomized controlled trial
Intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) is a form of repetitive transcranial stimulation that has been used to enhance upper limb (UL) motor recovery. However, only limited studies have examined its effica...

Association Between Total Cholesterol and 5 year Mortality in Patients with Carotid Artery Stenosis and Poststroke Functional Dependence
Background: Aggressive lipid-lowering treatment reduces the risk of cardiovascular events, but remains controversial in stroke patients. We investigate the influence of total cholesterol level on 5-year outcomes of ischemic stroke patients with high-grade internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis and poststroke functional dependence. Methods: One-hundred and ninety-six acute ischemic stroke patients with high-grade ICA stenosis and modified Rankin Scale score ≥ 3 upon discharge were enrolled and prospectively observed for 5 years.

Predicting recovery in acute poststroke aphasia
We report 2 longitudinal studies that identified 2 variables at onset that were strongly associated with good recovery of naming (the most common residual deficit in aphasia) in the first 6 months after stroke: damage to left posterior superior temporal gyrus (pSTG) and/or superior longitudinal fasciculus/arcuate fasciculus (SLF/AF), and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) use. We then tested these variables in 2 independent cohorts of chronic left hemisphere stroke patients, using chi‐square tests and multivariate logistic regression for dichotomous outcomes and t tests for continuous outcomes.
