Aortic Valve Replacement in Young and Middle-Aged Adults: Current and Potential Roles of TAVR.
CONCLUSIONS: TAVR is increasingly used for adults <55 years. Given the uniformly excellent results with SAVR, including both mortality and morbidity - particularly regarding stroke, our data favor SAVR in this population, but a prospective trial is needed. Left ventricular assist systems and strokes: Statins to the rescue?
The development of durable left ventricular assist systems (LVASs) has been critical in providing an option for management of end-stage heart disease and addressing the increasing gap between demand and supply of donor cardiac allografts for management of end-stage heart disease. The technology also provides an alternative to heart transplantation in many patients. Unfortunately, the long-term use of LVASs has been associated with significant morbidities, the most devastating of which may relate to the thrombogenicity of the artificial devices, leading to ischemic stroke or pump thrombosis.

Allograft inflammatory factor-1, a multi-target regulator of atherosclerosis
Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the arterial wall responsible for ischemic heart disease and stroke, the most frequent causes of death worldwide. Cardiovascular diseases are expected to remain the main cause of death globally within the next 15 years, owing to a rapidly increasing prevalence, mainly due to the rising incidence of obesity and diabetes on a global scale in both developed and developing economies. This forces us to consider new strategies for prediction, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular disease [1].

A multicenter study of the impella device for mechanical support of the systemic circulation in pediatric and adolescent patients
ConclusionTemporary circulatory support with Impella devices is feasible in pediatric and adolescent patients, with acceptable risk profiles. More experience and follow up is needed to improve technical performance and patient selection. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Hormone Therapy in Women After Heart Transplantation
Conclusions: HT is not associated with poor outcome or adverse effects in female heart transplant patients after age 35 years. However, a larger cohort of patients is necessary to confirm these observations.
