Starting Pediatric VAD Program: Transforming Challenges into Opportunities; A Case Series of a Single Center
CONCLUSIONS: To establish a VAD program, numerous specialties must be included with adequate training and learning for all team members.PMID:37679088 | DOI:10.59958/hsf.5545

Comparative Analysis of the Results of Stroke Treatment With Multiple Administrations of Wharton's Jelly Mesenchymal Stem Cells-Derived HE-ATMP and Standard Conservative Treatment: Case Series Study
Cell Transplant. 2023 Jan-Dec;32:9636897231195145. doi: 10.1177/09636897231195145.ABSTRACTStroke remains still the leading cause of long-term disability worldwide. Although interventions such as early reperfusion, intravenous thrombolysis, and endovascular revascularization have shown neurological benefit in stroke patients, there is still lack of effective treatment enabling regeneration of nervous tissue after cerebral ischemic episodes. Cell therapy is an evolving opportunity for stroke survivors with residual neurological deficits. The purpose of this study was to evaluate safety and potential efficacy of multiple admi...

Signal detection of adverse events associated with gabapentinoid use for chronic pain
CONCLUSIONS: Our study identified expected and unexpected ADE signals in GABA users. Neurological signals likely related to indications for GABA use. Signals for immunity, mental/behavior, and skin disorders were found in the FDA adverse event reporting system database. Unexpected signals of stroke and cancer require further confirmatory analyses to verify.PMID:37640024 | DOI:10.1002/pds.5685

Screening and Management of Coronary Artery Disease in Kidney Transplant Candidates
Diagnostics (Basel). 2023 Aug 20;13(16):2709. doi: 10.3390/diagnostics13162709.ABSTRACTCardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients and during the first year after transplantation. For these reasons, and due to the shortage of organs available for transplant, it is of utmost importance to identify patients with a good life expectancy after transplant and minimize the transplant peri-operative risk. Various conditions, such as severe pulmonary diseases, recent myocardial infarction or stroke, and ...

Efficacy and Safety of Bone Marrow Derived Stem Cell Therapy for Ischemic Stroke: Evidence from Network Meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Using stem cell transplantation was associated with reduced risk of death and improved functional outcomes in patients with ischemic stroke. Additional large trials are warranted to provide more conclusive evidence.PMID:37612871 | DOI:10.2174/1574888X18666230823094531

Human Cord Blood-Endothelial Progenitor Cells Alleviate Intimal Hyperplasia of Arterial Damage in a Rat Stroke Model
In this study, we used an animal model with pathological changes that mimics artery wall damage caused by stent retrievers in humans. We injected hCB-EPCs to investigate their effect on endothelial hyperplasia and dysfunction during intimal repair. Four groups were established based on the length of reperfusion (3 and 28 days), as well as the presence or absence of hCB-EPC therapy. Damage to the internal carotid artery was evaluated by hematoxylin-eosin and immunohistochemical staining. Stroke volume was not significantly different between non-EPC and EPC groups although EPC treatment alleviated intimal hyperplasia 28 days...

Human umbilical cord derived mesenchymal stem cells overexpressing HO-1 attenuate neural injury and enhance functional recovery by inhibiting inflammation in stroke mice
CONCLUSION: The findings indicate that MSCs overexpressing HO-1 exhibited significant therapeutic effects against hyper-inflammatory injury after stroke in mice, ultimately promoting recovery after ischemic stroke.PMID:37592866 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14412

Arterial Embolism After Facial Fat Grafting: A Systematic Literature Review
CONCLUSIONS: AE causes severe complications such as blindness, stroke, and death. Due to a lack of high-quality data, no evidence-based treatment algorithms exist. To increase patient safety, a database collecting cases and complications should be established.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE III: This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article.
