CONCLUSION: In patients who underwent TF, Tsc, TC, or Tcav TAVR, Tsc had a higher rate of stroke compared to TF and Tcav, and major or life-threatening bleeding compared to TF. Novel technique of left atrial appendage occlusion —a pilot study
AbstractA clot in the left atrial appendage (LAA) is an important cause of cardio-embolic stroke. Concomitant occlusion of the LAA during cardiac surgery is found to have reduced postoperative stroke. A study was designed to observe the results of LAA occlusion in 17 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) and aortic valve replacement (AVR). Reply: Stentless versus stented bioprosthetic root replacement in the medicare population and the wisdom of crowds
In our recent analysis of long-term outcomes of aortic root operations in the United States among Medicare beneficiaries using the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Adult Cardiac Surgery Database (STS-ACSD) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services linked data for patients aged 65 years or older undergoing elective aortic root surgery, we concluded that the bioprosthetic Bentall operation should be the procedure of choice in this population due to improved survival and lower stroke risk compared with the use of the mechanical Bentall, and lower risk of aortic valve reintervention compared with valve-sparing aortic root replacement.

Race and Socioeconomic Disparities in Proximal Aortic Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Patients of Non-White race undergoing proximal aortic surgery have less insurance coverage, more urgent procedures, and a higher comorbidity burden than White patients; which translates to Non-White patients having significantly higher morbidity. Transcatheter vs Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Pure Native Aortic Regurgitation
CONCLUSIONS: In Medicare patients with pure native AR, TAVR with the current commercially available transcatheter valves has comparable short-term outcomes.
