Right ventricular pressure-volume loop shape and systolic pressure change in pulmonary hypertension
In conclusion, pressure-volume loop shape and RV systolic pressure differential predominately depend on afterload and PAH severity and reflect RV-arterial coupling in PAH.PMID:33655769 | DOI:10.1152/ajplung.00583.2020

Delayed hypercoagulable state in COVID ‐19 adolescent patient: a case report
We report a case of an adolescent patient with mild symptoms of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who was already in recovery state, but suddenly experienced hypercoagulable state and stroke-like symptoms. AbstractCoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a systemic hyperinflammation disease which can cause severe respiratory symptoms and extrapulmonary manifestations. Hypercoagulable state in COVID-19 adolescent patient is a rare case. We present the case of a 16-year-old Indonesian boy with mild COVID-19 symptoms. Initially, the patient was treated with azithromycin, N-acetyl cysteine, etc. After several days of the treat...

Role of pulmonary function in predicting new-onset cardiometabolic diseases and cardiometabolic multimorbidity
This study used data from the UK Biobank, including 357,433 individuals with no cardiometabolic diseases at baseline (stage I) and 35,034 individuals with 1 cardiometabolic disease at baseline (stage II). Pulmonary function was measured by forced vital capacity (FVC) or forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1). We defined CM as the coexistence of at least two cardiometabolic diseases: type 2 diabetes (T2D), coronary heart disease (CHD), and stroke. Multinomial logistic regression models and Cox proportional hazards models were performed to estimate odds ratios (ORs) or hazard ratios (HRs) and their 95% confidence interv...

Does arterial cannulation site for aortic dissection repair impact surgical outcomes?
CONCLUSIONS: This study found no statistically significant different in rates of stroke or other complications based on cannulation site. Femoral arterial cannulation thus remains a safe and efficient choice for arterial cannulation in the repair of acute type A aortic dissection.PMID:37065559 | PMC:PMC10089872 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-22-576
