Self-Management and Yoga for Older Adults with Chronic Stroke: A Mixed-Methods Study of Physical Fitness and Physical Activity.
CONCLUSIONS: With the objective of improving physical fitness and exercise for older adults with chronic stroke, it is important for self-management interventions to provide specific safe and feasible physical activity components, such as yoga. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Health professionals may improve offered chronic stroke self-management interventions by incorporating yoga. PMID: 28452644 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Baseline Vascular Cognitive Impairment Predicts the Course of Apathetic Symptoms After Stroke: The CASPER Study.
CONCLUSION: Baseline VCI is associated with increasing apathy levels from baseline to the chronic stroke phase, whereas no association was found between baseline VCI and the course of depressive symptoms. Health professionals should be aware that apathy might be absent early after stroke but may evolve over time in patients with VCI. PMID: 29079017 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and risk of stroke and death in people with dementia
Discussion The use of AChEIs in people with dementia may be associated with reduced risk of ischemic stroke and death. These results call for a closer examination of the cardiovascular effects of AChEIs.

Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation detection in patients with acute ischemic stroke through prolonged Holter: prospective study.
CONCLUSION: In elderly patients with AIS, the use of an extended Holter recorder led to the detection of more cases of PAF, offering them the chance to initiate hypocoagulant therapy. Among this population, the STAF score was non-discriminative and did not prove useful in predicting PAF. PMID: 30054893 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effects of hydrokinesitherapy on balance and walking ability in stroke survivors: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies
AbstractBackgroundBalance and walking impairment are common dysfunctions after stroke. Emerging data has demonstrated that hydrokinesitherapy may have a positive influence on improvement of balance and walking ability. However, there is no firm evidence to support these results. Therefore, the aim of this review is to evaluate the effects of hydrokinesitherapy in stroke survivors systematically.MethodsMedline, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) in the Cochrane Library, CINAHL and SPORTDiscus were systemic searched from their inception to Septemter 30, 2018. RevMan 5.3 software was used to perf...
