Outcomes of Patients Receiving Thrombolysis in a Mobile Stroke Unit: a 4-Year Retrospective, Observational, Single-Center Study
Conclusions. AIS patients received thrombolysis faster in the MSU compared with EMS and more frequently within 60 minutes of stroke onset. Point estimates for 90-day clinical outcomes of AIS patients treated with thrombolysis favored MSU without a statistically significant difference.PMID:36357362 | DOI:10.1080/10903127.2022.2142991

Trimethylamine N-Oxide as a potential risk factor for non-communicable diseases: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: There is a dose-response relationship between TMAO levels and NCDs progression. Therefore, it can be studied as a therapeutic target or prognostic biomarker for dealing with NCDs.PMID:36330632 | DOI:10.2174/1871530323666221103120410

Cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause mortality in primary aldosteronism after adrenalectomy or mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist treatment: a meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, adrenalectomy could be preferred over MRA for patients with PA in reducing the risk of all-cause mortality and/or MACE and should be considered as the treatment of choice. That patients with PA could get less benefit from adrenalectomy as they age warrants further investigation.PMID:36315466 | DOI:10.1530/EJE-22-0375

Aging is associated with lower neuroactive steroids and worsened outcomes following cerebral ischemia in male mice
Endocrinology. 2022 Oct 28:bqac183. doi: 10.1210/endocr/bqac183. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIschemic stroke is a leading cause of disability and death and aging is the main non-modifiable risk factor. Following ischemia, neuroactive steroids have been shown to play a key role in cerebroprotection. Thus, brain steroid concentrations at the time of injury as well as their regulation after stroke are key factors to consider. Here, we investigated the effects of age and cerebral ischemia on steroid levels, behavioral outcomes and neuronal degeneration in 3-month-old and 18-month-old C57BL/6JRj male mice. Ischemia was induce...

Differences in the choroid plexus volume and microstructure are associated with body adiposity
The choroid plexus (CP) is a cerebral structure located in the ventricles that functions in producing most of the brain’s cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and transporting proteins and immune cells. Alterations in CP structure and function has been implicated in several pathologies including aging, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and stroke. However, identification of changes in the CP remains poorly characterized in obesity, one of the main risk factors of neurodegeneration, including in the absence of frank central nervous system alterations. Our goal here was to characterize the association between obesity, measur...

Investigating the causal relationships between excess adiposity and cardiometabolic health in men and women
Conclusions/interpretationWe describe the shapes of causal effects of BMI on cardiometabolic diseases and risk factors, and report sex differences in the causal effects of BMI on LDL-cholesterol. We found evidence of non-linearity in the causal effect of BMI on diseases and risk factor biomarkers. Reducing excess adiposity is highly beneficial for health, but there is greater need to consider biological sex in the management of adiposity.Graphical abstract

Relationship between triglyceride –glucose index and carotid plaques in a high-stroke-risk population in southeast china: A population-based cross-sectional survey
ConclusionsAn elevated TyG index is a potential predictor of carotid plaques in the high-stroke-risk population older than 40 years.
