Clinical Characteristics, Management, and Outcomes of Suspected Poststroke Acute Coronary Syndrome.
Conclusion: Age and troponin level appear to play a role in the current clinical decision making for patient with suspected poststroke ACS. Troponin level appears to significantly correlate with 1-year all-cause mortality. In the management of poststroke acute coronary syndrome, optimal medical therapy had similar inpatient and all-cause mortality compared to PCI and/or CABG. PMID: 29130017 [PubMed]

Trends in Hospitalization for Hypertensive Emergency, and Relationship of End-Organ Damage With In-Hospital Mortality.
CONCLUSION: A rising trend in hospitalization for HTNE, with an overall decrease in in-hospital mortality was observed from 2002 to 2012, possibly related to changes in coding practices and improved management. Epidemiological characteristics, management and early outcomes of acute coronary syndromes in Greece: The PHAETHON study.
CONCLUSIONS: The PHAETHON study provided valuable insights into the epidemiology, management and outcome of ACS patients in Greece. Management of ACS resembles the management observed in other European countries. However, several issues still to be addressed by public authorities for the timely and proper management of ACS. Prevalence and severity of hypertensive emergencies and outbreaks in the hospital emergency department of CHU Timone at Marseille: Follow-up in three months of hospitalized patients.
CONCLUSION: Hypertensive emergencies hospitalized in Timone Hospital represent 44% of patients hospitalized for emergency HTA. Their gravity is 1/3 since most patients die within three months warranting closer management of these fragile patients by creating a specialized consulting postemergency. 0209: Long-term clinical impact of pre-hospital morphine use in ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients. FAST-MI 2010 registry
Conclusion Pre-hospital morphine use was not associated with an increase of in-hospital complication and one-year mortality; and, could be more used as recommended in the current guidelines.

Sex-related differences in presentation, treatment, and outcome of patients with atrial fibrillation in Europe: a report from the Euro Observational Research Programme Pilot survey on Atrial Fibrillation
Conclusion The EORP-AF Pilot survey provides contemporary data on sex differences in clinical features and management of AF patients participating in the EORP-AF Pilot registry. Female subjects were older and more symptomatic, compared with males, and were more likely to receive rate control. Also, female patients were at higher stroke risk overall, but oral anticoagulation was used in a high proportion of patients.

Outcome quality of in-patient cardiac rehabilitation in elderly patients - identification of relevant parameters
Conclusion The outcome of in-patient rehabilitation in elderly patients can be comprehensively assessed by the identification of appropriate key areas, that is, cardiovascular risk factors, exercise capacity and subjective health. I just got back from the North Dakota Mission: Lifeline STEMI and Acute Stroke Conference in Bismark, ND. I had a great time and I learned a lot. I often get asked to speak in various venues about acute STEMI and 12-lead ECG interpretation, but for this conference they wanted me to talk mostly about stroke.
