Accelerated measurement of carotid plaque volume using artificial intelligence enhanced 3D ultrasound
CONCLUSION: Auto-CPV assessment is accurate, reproducible and significantly faster than manual planimetry. Improved feasibility means that the utility of CPV can be assessed in large population studies to stratify risk in asymptomatic carotid disease or assess response to medical treatment.PMID:37355020 | DOI:10.1016/j.avsg.2023.06.018

Zero-contrast imaging for the assessment of transcatheter aortic valve implantation in candidates with renal dysfunction
CONCLUSION: The proposed contrast-free imaging protocol appears to be a promising clinical tool for pre-TAVI evaluation in patients with severe renal dysfunction.PMID:37350345 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2023.2224888

Accelerated measurement of carotid plaque volume using artificial intelligence enhanced 3D ultrasound.
This study tested the accuracy, reproducibility and time saved of using an artificial intelligence (AI) derived semi-automatic software to measure CPV ( ‘auto-CPV’).

Synchronous multimode ultrasound for assessing right-to-left shunt: a prospective clinical study
ConclusionSynchronous multimodal ultrasound significantly improves the detection rate and test efficiency, quantifies RLS more accurately, and reduces testing risks and medical costs. We conclude that synchronous multimodal ultrasound has significant potential for clinical applications.

Longitudinal hemodynamic evaluation of uncomplicated twin pregnancies according to chorionicity: physiological cardiovascular dysfunction in monochorionic twin pregnancy
CONCLUSIONS: Maternal cardiovascular function undergoes significant changes during an uncomplicated twin pregnancy and chorionicity influences maternal hemodynamics. In both twin pregnancies the hemodynamic changes are detected as early as the first trimester. In DC twin pregnancies the maternal hemodynamics remain stable during the rest of pregnancy. On the contrary, in MC twin pregnancies the rise in maternal CO continues in the second trimester to sustain the higher placental growth. There is a subsequent cross-over with a reduction in cardiovascular performance during the third trimester. This article is protected by c...

Computed tomography angiography-based radiomics model for predicting carotid atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability
This study aimed to identify radiomic features associated with the neovascularization of CAP and construct a prediction model for CAP vulnerability based on radiomic features. CTA data and clinical data of patients with CAPs who underwent CTA and CEUS between January 2018 and December 2021 in Beijing Hospital were retrospectively collected. The data were divided into a training cohort and a testing cohort using a 7:3 split. According to the examination of CEUS, CAPs were dichotomized into vulnerable and stable groups. 3D Slicer software was used to delineate the region of interest in CTA images, and the Pyradiomics package...

Variants in genes related to inflammation and endothelial function can increase the risk for carotid atherosclerosis in southwestern China
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of carotid atherosclerosis was observed to be extremely high in the high-risk stroke population in southwestern China. There were associations observed between the specific variants in inflammation and endothelial function relevant genes and carotid atherosclerosis. The high-risk interactive genotypes among IL1A rs1609682, ITGA2 rs1991013, and HABP2 rs7923349 significantly increased the risk of carotid atherosclerosis. These results are expected to provide novel strategies for the prevention of carotid atherosclerosis. The gene-gene interactive analysis used in this study may be very helpful to e...

Doppler flow morphology characteristics of epiaortic arteries in aortic valve pathologies: a retrospective study on a cohort of patients with ischemic stroke
ConclusionsWell defined, qualitative Doppler flow characteristics detectable in the CCA and ICA are highly predictive for aortic valve disease. The consideration of these flow characteristics can be useful to streamline diagnostic and therapeutic measures, especially in the outpatient setting.

Associations of plaque morphology and location with Intraplaque neovascularization in the carotid artery by contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging
CONCLUSION: The location and morphology of carotid plaques were significantly associated with the IPN grade on CEUS, and therefore show potential as biomarkers for plaque vulnerability. Serum HDL-C was also identified as a protective factor against IPN, and may play a role in the management of carotid atherosclerosis. Our study provided a potential strategy for identification of vulnerable carotid plaques and elucidated the important imaging predictors of stroke.PMID:37251224 | PMC:PMC10213664 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2023.1097070
