Effectiveness and safety of oral anticoagulants for non-valvular atrial fibrillation: a population-based cohort study in primary healthcare in Catalonia
Conclusion: Being men, a previous event and DOAC-switch posed a higher risk for all study outcomes. direct oral anticoagulants had a protective effect against cerebral bleeding in comparison to vitamin K antagonists. Adherence to direct oral anticoagulants resulted in lower risk of stroke and cerebral bleeding. We found no differences in the risk of stroke and gastrointestinal bleeding when we compared direct oral anticoagulants vs. vitamin K antagonists.

Effect of Bypassing the Closest Stroke Center in Patients with Intracerebral Hemorrhage
This prespecified secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial conducted in Catalonia, Spain, assesses whether direct transport to an endovascular treatment –capable stroke center vs to the nearest local stroke center benefits patients experiencing intracerebral hemorrhage.

Thrombectomy aspiration post-market study in acute stroke with the Q aspiration catheter: the TAPAS study
Conclusion In this multicenter, observational study, the Q Aspiration Catheter used as first-line therapy demonstrated a good and safe profile in terms of navigation, revascularization, and safety in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Modeling the potential efficiency of a blood biomarker-based tool to guide pre-hospital thrombolytic therapy in stroke patients
ConclusionsThe use of a blood biomarker test to guide pre-hospital thrombolysis is cost-effective compared with standard hospital care in patients with ischemic stroke.

Managing uncertainty: Physicians' decision-making for stroke prevention for patients with atrial fibrillation and intracerebral haemorrhage
Conclusion Physicians described the process of deciding on stroke prevention in patients with AF post-ICH as 'challenging' due to considerable 'clinical equipoise'. Key factors that affected decision-making was patient comorbidities, functional status, and patient willingness to engage with oral anticoagulation therapy. Shared decision-making was believed to be beneficial, but physicians believed that the ultimate responsibility to decide on stroke prevention lay with the clinician.PMID:35253141 | DOI:10.1055/a-1789-4824

Characteristics and management of patients with stroke and major hemorrhagic episodes with atrial fibrillation under vitamin K antagonist therapy. EVENTHO study
CONCLUSIONS: In the sample studied, half of the AF patients who suffered stroke/SE or major hemorrhagic episode had inadequate TTR and, despite this, after hospital discharge, they restarted treatment with VKA. These results highlight the need to evaluate safer and effective therapeutic alternatives in AF patients with poor TTR control after suffering a stroke/SE or major hemorrhagic episode.PMID:35120766 | DOI:10.1016/j.medcli.2021.12.004

P-012 Thrombectomy aspiration post-market study in acute stroke: the TAPAS study
ConclusionThe Q Aspiration Catheter is a novel technology that showed comparable deliverability and revascularization rates as other commercially available catheters with no safety concerns. More prospective clinical data is needed to fully assess the Q Aspiration Catheter.AbbreviationsAIS (acute ischemic stroke), MT (mechanical thrombectomy), ASPECTs (Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score), mTICI (modified TICI score), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale), mRS (modified Rankin Scale), ENT (embolization to a new territory), sICH (symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage)Disclosures F. CNS Neurol Disord Drug Targets. 2021 Feb 16. doi: 10.2174/1871527320666210216121211. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The current ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has compelled us to scrutinize major outbreaks in the past two decades, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), in 2002, and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), in 2012. We aimed to assess the associated neurological manifestations with SARS CoV-2 infection.METHODS: In this systematic review, a search was carried out by key-electronic databases, controlled vocabulary, and indexing of trials to evaluate the available pertinent studies which included both ...
