Automated deep learning-based paradigm for high-risk plaque detection in B-mode common carotid ultrasound scans: an asymptomatic Japanese cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: The proposed study demonstrates a fast, accurate, and reliable solution for early detection and quantification of plaque lesions in common carotid artery ultrasound scans. The system runs on a test US image in < 1 second, proving overall performance to be clinically reliable.PMID:34825801 | DOI:10.23736/S0392-9590.21.04771-4

Based on voxel-based morphological analysis to investigate the effect of acupuncture-rehabilitation therapy on hippocampal volume and its neuroprotective mechanism in patients with vascular cognitive impairment with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A study protocol
Discussion: This trial can clarify the effect of acupuncture-rehabilitation therapy on hippocampal volume and its intervention mechanism on oxidative stress injury in VCI patients with T2DM, and clarify the scientific connotation of its neuroprotective mechanism in the VCI patients with T2DM, in order to provide a theoretical basis for the clinical application of acupuncture-rehabilitation therapy in the treatment of VCI. Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 4310: Cardiovascular Disease Diagnosis from DXA Scan and Retinal Images Using Deep Learning
In this study, we aimed at diagnosing CVD using a novel approach integrating information from retinal images and DXA data. We considered an adult Qatari cohort of 500 participants from Qatar Biobank (QBB) with an equal number of participants from the CVD and the control groups. We designed a case-control study with a novel multi-modal (combining data from multiple modalities—DXA and retinal images)—to propose a deep learning (DL)-based technique to distinguish the CVD group from the control group. Uni-modal models based on retinal images and DXA data achieved 75.6% and 77.4% accuracy, respective...

Finding the everyday miracles in life
Last week I was writing about what it takes for a miracle to happen and one of my commentators, the lovely Patsy Collins who joined me on the podcast not that long ago, pointed out that there are all sorts of miracles that happen, including some everyday miracles we never know about, because they happen behind the scenes. And it got me thinking about the all the little miracles that have happened in my life over the years. And, once I got thinking, I got into musing about what life would be like if they hadn’t happened. And, as it’s been a week of ups and downs on the exam front I thought I might as well start ...
