Site and Rate of Occlusive Disease in Cervicocerebral Arteries: A CT Angiography Study of 2209 Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke ADULT BRAIN
CONCLUSIONS: CTA in patients with acute ischemic stroke shows large individual variations of occlusion sites and degrees. Approximately half of such patients have no visible occlusive disease, and 40% imaged within 6 hours show large, proximal segment occlusions amenable to endovascular therapy. These findings show the importance of early noninvasive imaging of extra- and intracranial arteries for identifying occlusive disease, planning recanalization strategies, and designing interventional trials.

Analyzing Circle of Willis blood flow in ischemic stroke patients through 3D Stroke Arterial Flow Estimation.
Conclusions We present SAFE analysis for collecting detailed time-resolved cerebral arterial flow data in the entire Circle of Willis for IS. Further study with more cases may be important to test the clinical utilization of SAFE and helpful to the study of the underlying hemodynamics of stroke. Carotid Bulb Webs as a Cause of "Cryptogenic" Ischemic Stroke EXTRACRANIAL VASCULAR
CONCLUSIONS: Carotid webs exhibit a strong association with ischemic stroke, and their presence should be suspected in patients lacking other risk factors, particularly African American women.

Variability of Stroke Patients Meeting Endovascular Stroke Trial Criteria in a Non-Clinical Trial Setting
Conclusions The proportion of patients with acute stroke and large vessel occlusion presenting within eight hours that would meet radiological criteria for endovascular stroke trials varies considerably (62-100%) in a cohort outside of clinical trials from an academic comprehensive stroke center. Thus, the radiological criteria used for candidate selection in daily practice will greatly influence the proportion of patients treated with endovascular therapy.

Effects of chronic flexed wrist posture on the elasticity and crosssectional area of the median nerve at the carpal tunnel among chronic stroke patients.
CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that chronic flexed wrist posture may cause atrophy of the median nerve due to chronic compression after stroke and increase in the stiffness of the median nerve. PMID: 29400371 [PubMed - in process]

The Yellow Scale Is Superior to the Gray Scale for Detecting Acute Ischemic Stroke on a Monitor Display in Computed Tomography
Conclusions The detection of acute ischemic stroke is improved by changing the display monitor from the gray scale to the yellow scale. From the perspective of color psychology, yellow is associated with higher arousal, cheerfulness, confidence, creativity, and excitement. Therefore, the yellow scale may be suitable for a medical imaging display.

Procedural and clinical outcomes of endovascular recanalization therapy in patients with cancer-related stroke.
Conclusions Although clinical outcomes at discharge were similar for CE and LAA patients, complete recanalization seemed more difficult to achieve in CRS patients than in conventional stroke patients. PMID: 29792090 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Endovascular retrograde approach may be a better option for acute tandem occlusions stroke.
Conclusion For acute tandem occlusion stroke, favourable outcomes were better in patients undergoing retrograde therapy than in patients who received the anterograde approach. Future randomised trials are warranted to determine the optimal treatment. PMID: 30290710 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Mapping acute lesion locations to physiological swallow impairments after stroke
This study aimed to assess the statistical relationship between acute stroke lesion locations and impairment of specific aspects of swallow physiology. We performed lesion symptom mapping with 68 retrospectively recruited, acute, first-ever ischemic stroke patients. Lesions were determined on diffusion weighted MRI scans. Post-stroke swallow physiology was determined using the Modified Barium Swallow Study Impairment Profile (MBSImP©™). The relationship between brain lesion location and 17 physiological aspects of swallowing were tested using voxel-based and region-based statistical associations corrected for multiple c...

Intravenous lysis treatment in acute stroke treatment-latest situation.
CONCLUSION: The i.v. thrombolysis treatment is still an essential treatment concept in acute stroke management. Further studies should be carried out with respect to the application in mothership stroke patients undergoing early endovascular treatment. PMID: 31065739 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Associations Between Diffusion Dynamics and Functional Outcome in Acute and Early Subacute Ischemic Stroke
ConclusionDiffusion dynamics are correlated with the clinical functional outcome of ischemic stroke. This correlation is independent of the effect of lesion volume and is specific to the time period between symptom onset and imaging. More effort is needed to further investigate the predictive value of diffusion-weighted imaging.
