Organised inpatient (stroke unit) care for stroke: network meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: We found moderate-quality evidence that stroke patients who receive organised inpatient (stroke unit) care are more likely to be alive, independent, and living at home one year after the stroke. The apparent benefits were independent of patient age, sex, initial stroke severity, or stroke type, and were most obvious in units based in a discrete stroke ward. We observed no systematic increase in the length of inpatient stay, but these findings had considerable uncertainty. PMID: 32324916 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The effect and associated factors of dispatcher recognition of stroke: A retrospective observational study.
CONCLUSIONS: The dispatchers should spend more time identifying stroke patients by following the dispatch protocol. Recognition of stroke by dispatchers was associated with improved stroke care. PMID: 29158105 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Weekly variations of stroke occurrence: an observational cohort study based on the Kyoto Stroke Registry, Japan
Conclusions Some factors that arise periodically appear to affect the incidence of cerebral infarction, which gradually develops over years, and this suggests an aetiological mechanism different from the conventional cumulative effect of risk factors due to long-term exposure. We propose a hypothesis that there is a ‘triggering factor’ for the development of cerebral infarction.

Multicentre collection of uniform data on patients hospitalised for transient ischaemic attack or stroke in the Philippines: the Philippine Neurological Association One Database-Stroke (PNA1DB-Stroke) protocol
Introduction For scientific advances to translate into improved patient outcomes, systems of care must be in place to facilitate delivery of care. There is scarce information on quality of care and clinical outcome in our stroke patients. We aim to collect uniform data from patients with first or recurrent transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or ischaemic or haemorrhagic stroke to determine in-patient caseload, patient profile, types of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, outcomes and overall quality of care among patients hospitalised for acute stroke in the Philippines. Methods and analysis This multicentre observational...

Impact of socioeconomic deprivation on mortality in people with haemorrhagic stroke: a population-based cohort study
Conclusions There is a significant impact of SED on long-term mortality after haemorrhagic stroke. The reasons for this survival inequality must be explored to reduce mortality in patients with haemorrhagic stroke.

The 2020 Taiwan Stroke Society guidelines for blood pressure control at the acute stage of ischemic stroke
J Formos Med Assoc. 2022 Aug 27:S0929-6646(22)00318-7. doi: 10.1016/j.jfma.2022.08.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe 2020 Taiwan Stroke Society (TSS) guidelines for blood pressure (BP) control related to ischemic stroke update the 2015 TSS BP guidelines. The early management of acute ischemic stroke has evolved rapidly in the previous two decades. Since the publication of the previous version of the TSS BP guidelines, many studies have addressed BP management in ischemic stroke. Particularly, several successful endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) trials published in 2015 led to a new era of acute treatment for ischemic st...

Distribution of risk factors differs from coronary heart disease and stroke in China: a national population survey
Conclusions The distribution of risk factors for CHD and stroke were substantial differences. More specific prevention and control measures should be formulated according to the distribution differences of risk factors related to CVD.

Multidimensional analysis of sedentary behaviour and participation in Spanish stroke survivors (Part&Sed-Stroke): a protocol for a longitudinal multicentre study
Introduction Stroke survivors usually experience long-lasting functional, emotional and social consequences that might contribute to sedentary behaviour and participation restrictions, which are important targets to address during rehabilitation. However, the trajectory and inter-relationship between these factors are unknown. Methods and analysis Part&Sed is a research project based on an observational study design with 6 and 12 months of follow-ups in stroke survivors. In addition, a qualitative analysis of the impact of the stroke on the stroke survivor, validation of the Satisfaction with Daily Occupation-Occupati...

Effects of aspirin on risk and severity of early recurrent stroke after transient ischaemic attack and ischaemic stroke: time-course analysis of randomised trials
Publication date: Available online 18 May 2016 Source:The Lancet Author(s): Peter M Rothwell, Ale Algra, Zhengming Chen, Hans-Christoph Diener, Bo Norrving, Ziyah Mehta Background Aspirin is recommended for secondary prevention after transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or ischaemic stroke on the basis of trials showing a 13% reduction in long-term risk of recurrent stroke. However, the risk of major stroke is very high for only the first few days after TIA and minor ischaemic stroke, and observational studies show substantially greater benefits of early medical treatment in the acute phase than do longer-term trials. ...

Remote ischaemic conditioning for preventing and treating ischaemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: We found low-quality evidence that RIC may reduce the risk of recurrent stroke in participants with intracerebral artery stenosis and reduce stroke severity in participants undergoing carotid stenting, but it may increase death or dependence in participants with acute ischaemic stroke who are undergoing intravenous thrombolysis. However, there is considerable uncertainty about these conclusions because of the small number of studies and low quality of the evidence. PMID: 29974450 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The relationship between malignant tumors and ischemic stroke: II. Chronology of diagnoses and treatment of strokes
Orv Hetil. 2022 Jan 9;163(2):43-51. doi: 10.1556/650.2022.32329. Print 2022 Jan 9.ABSTRACTÖsszefoglaló. A malignus daganatok és a stroke együttesen gyakran fordulnak elő a stroke tradicionális rizikófaktoraival (magas vérnyomás, hyperlipidaemia, cukorbetegség, elhízás, dohányzás) rendelkező betegekben. Az elmúlt évtized kutatási eredményei alátámasztották, hogy a rosszindulatú daganatban szenvedő betegekben szignifikánsan nagyobb a stroke kockázata. A malignus daganatokhoz társuló stroke a leggyakrabban a malignus daganat diagnózisát követő fél-egy év során jelentkezik. A kapcsolat a más...

A community-based study of stroke code users in northern portugal.
Conclusions: The criteria for accessing the Stroke Code are currently restrictive. Though the Stroke Code is accessed in case of more severe patient's conditions, the proportion of patients treated with fibrinolysis is relatively high in comparison with other studies.
