Neurologic Outcome Predictors in Pediatric Intracerebral Hemorrhage Brief Report
Background and Purpose—Intracerebral hemorrhage is a considerable source of morbidity and mortality. This 3-center study describes outcomes of pediatric intracerebral hemorrhage and identifies 2-year neurological outcome predictors. Methods—Children 29 days to 18 years of age presenting with intracerebral hemorrhage from March 2007 to May 2015 were enrolled prospectively. Exclusion criteria included trauma; intracranial tumor; hemorrhagic transformation of arterial ischemic stroke or cerebral sinovenous thrombosis; isolated subdural, epidural, or subarachnoid hemorrhage; and abnormal baseline neurological function. Intr...

Wnt-3a alleviates neuroinflammation after ischemic stroke by modulating the responses of microglia/macrophages and astrocytes.
Abstract Neuroinflammation crucially influences functional recovery after ischemic stroke. Wnt-3a, a novel Wnt protein that specifically promotes Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, has been shown to regulate apoptosis and cell proliferation, but how it affects ischemic stroke-induced toxic brain inflammation remains unknown. Using a transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO) mouse model in this study, we found that intranasal Wnt-3a-treated tMCAO mice had apparently reduced infarct volume and decreased brain water content after being allowed to recover for 72 h, as well as better neurologic outcomes on da...

Ferroptosis: an emerging therapeutic target in stroke
AbstractStroke is a disastrous neurological disease with high morbidity and mortality. The mechanism of the pathological process is extremely complicated and unclear. Although many basic studies have confirmed some molecular mechanism of brain injury after stroke, these studies cannot effectively translate into treatment and clinical application. Ferroptosis is a form of cell death that is distinct from necrosis, apoptosis, and autophagy morphologically and biochemically, and is characterized by iron‐dependent accumulation of lipid peroxides. Despite ferroptosis being first identified in cancer cells, it was recently ...

Development of Biomembrane-mimetic Nanoparticles for the Treatment of Ischemic Stroke
Yakugaku Zasshi. 2021;141(9):1071-1078. doi: 10.1248/yakushi.21-00114.ABSTRACTIncrease in vascular permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a distinct pathology following ischemic stroke. In previous studies, we demonstrated that liposomal drug delivery system (DDS)-based delivery of neuroprotectants is useful for treating cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Additionally, our previous studies reported that combination therapy with liposomal fasudil plus tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA), a thrombolytic agent, brings about decrease in the risk of t-PA-derived cerebral hemorrhage and prolong the therapeutic time ...
