Depression and dynamic balance recovery among stroke survivors: A preliminary investigation
Conclusions There is a high prevalence of post-stroke depression among stroke survivors and they have poor dynamic balance. However, owing to small sample of participants in the present study, its premature to draw conclusion on the relationship between depression and dynamic balance recovery among stroke survivors from the result of this study.

Video-guided exercise after stroke: a feasibility randomised controlled trial.
CONCLUSION: A trial of video-guided exercise is feasible, although an optimal main trial would require some relatively minor changes to design, outcome measures, eligibility, and the intervention. PMID: 32684076 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Distribution of symptoms of post-stroke depression in relation to some characteristics of the vulnerable patients in socio-cultural context
Conclusion: Age could be a risk factor for PSD, which was more prevalent in the elderly than young/middle-age adults, female gender, left cerebral lesion, complications, cold case; those living with a spouse, self-employed and unemployed. Keywords: Symptoms of post-stroke depression, modifiable characteristics of the vulnerable patients, African socio-cultural context

Effects of the introduction of objective criteria for referral and discharge in physical therapy for ischemic stroke in China: a randomized controlled trial.
CONCLUSION: Introduction of a set of rules for referral and therapy input at different stages of rehabilitation partially improved patients' ADL and quality of life, but did not improve motor function. PMID: 31875687 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Comparative Lung Function Performance of Stroke Survivors and Age‐matched and Sex‐matched Controls
DiscussionThe weakness of respiratory muscles associated with stroke may have contributed to decreases in lung function observed. There was a significant reduction in chest excursion of SS compared with CG. Chest excursion has been used as an indicator of respiratory muscle function because the range of motion of the thorax serves the respiration. Movements of the thorax influence the content of the thorax cavity, leading to alterations in lung volumes. Implications for Physiotherapy PracticeStroke survivors have lower lung function when compared with CG; this has implications for clinicians in stroke rehabilitation, under...

Assessing the Reliability and Validity of a Physical Therapy Functional Measurement Tool, the Modified Iowa Level of Assistance Scale, in Acute Hospital Inpatients.
CONCLUSIONS: The mILOA has excellent inter-rater reliability, and good known-group validity and responsiveness to functional change across acute hospital inpatients with a variety of diagnoses. It may provide opportunities for physiotherapists to collect a functional outcome measure to demonstrate effectiveness of inpatient therapy and allow for benchmarking across institutions.
