Nicardipine Associated Risk of Short-Term Mortality in Critically Ill Patients with Ischemic Stroke
This study aimed to determine all-cause in-hospital mortality, medication-related hypotensive episodes, development of hospital acquired infections and hospital length of stay between nicardipine and labetalol use for the management of hypertension after acute ischemic stroke.

Stroke Units with Dedicated Bedside Monitoring Improves Blood Pressure Control (P6.265)
Conclusions:Patients monitored on dedicated stroke units can obtain control of their blood pressure with adequate adjustment of oral medications and require fewer acute IV labetalol treatments than patients who are not being continuously monitored. Time to Blood Pressure Control Before Thrombolytic Therapy in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke: Comparison of Labetalol, Nicardipine, and Hydralazine

Abstract 232: Parenteral Antihypertensive Use on the First Day of Hospitalization after Acute Ischemic Stroke: A US Population Study Poster Session II
Conclusion: Approximately 16% of AIS patients receive IV AH medication in the first 24 hours of admission in the US. The rate of early AH treatment has increased over time both overall and among those who did not receive rt-PA. Whether this is due to increasingly aggressive BP treatment by physicians or higher BP on admission among AIS patients is unclear. Contrary to recommendations, nicardipine was used infrequently. More evidence is required to justify specific AH agents for BP treatment in AIS.

Use of Antihypertensive Medications During Delivery Hospitalizations Complicated by Preeclampsia.
CONCLUSION: Use of multiple antihypertensive agents to treat preeclamptic women increased over the study period for women with mild, superimposed, and severe preeclampsia. Management of agitation following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: is there a role for Beta-blockers?
Discussion. Antipsychotics and benzodiazepines are often not sufficiently effective in the control of agitation/aggression in patients with traumatic brain injury and similar conditions.
