Symptomatic vs. non-symptomatic device-related thrombus after LAAC: a sub-analysis from the multicenter EUROC-DRT registry
ConclusionStroke/SE are documented in 14.2% and occur both in close temporal relation to the DRT finding and chronologically independently therefrom. Identification of risk factors remains cumbersome, putting all DRT patients at substantial risk for stroke/SE. Further studies are necessary to minimize the risk of DRT and ischemic events.Graphical Abstract

Association of brain microbleeds with risk factors, cognition, and MRI markers in MESA
DISCUSSION: Results suggest differing associations for lobar versus deep locations. Sensitive microbleed quantification will facilitate future longitudinal studies of their potential role as an early indicator of vascular pathology.PMID:37289978 | DOI:10.1002/alz.13346

Value of ATRIA stroke risk score in predicting atrial high ‐rate episodes: A comparison of six different risk scores
ConclusionAHRE is common in patients with a CIED. In this context, several risk scoring systems have been used to predict the development of AHRE in patients with a CIED. This study's findings revealed that The ATRIA stroke risk scoring system performed better than other commonly used risk scoring systems in predicting AHRE.

Bioinformatics-based analysis of mechanistic differences in vascular endothelial injury ischemic stroke induced by atrial fibrillation and atherosclerosis
This study aimed to investigate the mechanistic differences in endothelial injury between atrial fibrillation (AF)- and AS-induced ischemic stroke. All target genes of AF, AS, and the vascular endothelial cell (VC) were obtained from the GeneCards database; the differential genes of AF and AS separately associated with the VC were established by a Venn diagram. A protein-protein interaction network was created, and Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes databases were used to perform genomic enrichment and functional enrichment analysis. Hub genes were selected by Maximal Clique Centrality algorithm rank...

Plasma TSH and cardiovascular disease in the general population: A Mendelian randomization study of 105,224 individuals
CONCLUSIONS: In 105,224 individuals from the general population low plasma TSH was observationally and genetically associated with increased risk of AF, MI, and AVS suggesting that these observations may reflect causal pathways.PMID:37263031 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2023.05.018

Epidemiology of Stroke in a General Japanese Population: The Hisayama Study
J Atheroscler Thromb. 2023 May 30. doi: 10.5551/jat.RV22004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Hisayama Study is an ongoing epidemiological study of stroke, coronary artery disease (CAD), and other noncommunicable diseases in a general Japanese population established in 1961. According to the longitudinal data from the Hisayama Study, average levels of systolic blood pressure among hypertensive individuals have decreased with time since 1961. In contrast, the prevalence of metabolic risk factors such as obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and glucose intolerance has increased with time. The incidence rates of ischemic stroke in...
