Antithrombotiques oraux et pronostic apr ès un an des patients atteints de fibrillation auriculaire dans un milieu à ressources limitées
CONCLUSION: Half of patients with atrial fibrillation in this registry developed an outcome after one year of follow-up, with heart failure, new onset and paroxystic atrial fibrillation being the main predicting factors. Diagnosing and managing atrial fibrillation in patients with heart disease should therefore be considered as a key priority.PMID:37331159 | DOI:10.1016/j.ancard.2023.101616

A causal relationship between irritability and cardiovascular diseases: a Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSION: Our findings support the first genetic evidence of the causality of genetically predicted irritability with the risk of developing into CVDs. Our results deliver a viewpoint that more early active interventions to manage an individual's anger and related unhealthy lifestyle habits are needed to prevent the occurrence of adverse cardiovascular events.PMID:37324625 | PMC:PMC10267866 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2023.1174329

Detection of atrial fibrillation in real world setting in patients with cryptogenic stroke and an implantable loop recorder
ConclusionCompared to CRYSTAL-AF, the AF detection rate in our cohort is similar, but this cohort includes a higher proportion of female and African American patients. Most patients with recurrent strokes after ILR implant did not have AF during 36 months of monitoring.

Incident cardiovascular events and imaging phenotypes in UK Biobank participants with past cancer
Conclusions Cancer history is linked to increased risk of incident CVDs and adverse cardiac remodelling independent of shared vascular risk factors.

Is It Really Safe to Discontinue Antiplatelet Therapy 12 Months After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation?
AF is the most common cardiac arrhythmia worldwide. The estimated prevalence among adults is 2 –4%, and the lifetime risk of developing AF is one in three individuals.1–3 AF is associated with stroke, increasing the risk four- to five-fold while accounting for 20–30% of ischaemic strokes.4,5 In addition, embolic strokes associated with...

Changes in CHA2DS2-VASc score and risk of ischemic stroke among patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionIn atrial fibrillation patients, changes in CHA2DS2-VASc score over time were associated with the incidence of stroke. The improved predictability of follow-up and Delta CHA2DS2-VASc scores indicates that stroke risk is not a static parameter.Trial registrationThis is an observational, post-hoc analysis of the MISOAC-AF randomized controlled trial, registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (identifier: NCT02941978; registered: October 21, 2016).

An Updated Meta-Analysis on the Clinical Outcomes of Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Closure Versus Direct Oral Anticoagulation in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation
The availability of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) with known lower bleeding risk compared with warfarin have raised questions about the role of left atrial appendage closure (LAAC). We aimed to perform a meta-analysis to compare the clinical outcomes for LAAC versus DOACs. All studies directly comparing LAAC with DOACs up to January 2023 were included. The outcomes studied included the combined major adverse cardiovascular (CV) events outcomes, ischemic stroke and thromboembolic events, major bleeding, CV mortality, and all-cause mortality.

Impact of a Novel Score to Predict Left Ventricular Diastolic Dysfunction After Catheter Ablation of Nonparoxysmal Atrial Fibrillation With Preserved Ejection Fraction
This study aimed to develop a novel risk score to predict LV diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) 12  months after AFCA (12-month LVDD) and to evaluate whether the risk score was associated with cardiovascular events (cardiovascular death, transient ischemic attack/stroke, myocardial infarction, or heart failure hospitalization). We studied 397 patients with nonparoxysmal AF with preserved ejectio n fraction who underwent initial AFCA (age: 69 years, women: 32%).

Association of Interleukin-6 and Interleukin-18 with Cardiovascular Disease in Older Adults: Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study
CONCLUSION: Among older adults, both IL-6 and IL-18 were associated with global CVD and death. The association between IL-6 with CVD appears to be more robust and was independent of hs-CRP, NT-proBNP, and hs-TnT.PMID:37306504 | DOI:10.1093/eurjpc/zwad197

A Real-World Evaluation of Primary Medication Nonadherence in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation Prescribed Oral Anticoagulants in the United States
ConclusionsMore than one-quarter of patients experienced PMN within 30 days of their initial prescription order. This rate decreased over a longer period, suggesting a delay in fills. Understanding the factors associated with PMN is warranted to develop effective interventions for improving OAC treatment rates in NVAF.
