The Riga East University Hospital Stroke Registry-An Analysis of 4915 Consecutive Patients with Acute Stroke
Conclusions: Our stroke registry data are comparable to those of other major registries. Analysis of stroke registry data is important for improving stroke care and obtaining additional information for stroke studies.PMID:34207100 | PMC:PMC8233796 | DOI:10.3390/medicina57060632

Association of ischemic stroke onset time with presenting severity, acute progression, and long-term outcome: A cohort study
ConclusionsNight-onset strokes, compared with day-onset strokes, are associated with higher presenting neurologic severity, more frequent END, and worse 3-month functional outcome. These findings suggest that circadian time of onset is an important additional variable for inclusion in epidemiologic natural history studies and in treatment trials of neuroprotective and reperfusion agents for acute ischemic stroke.

The effect of a locally adapted, secondary stroke risk factor self-management program on medication adherence among veterans with stroke/TIA
Abstract We targeted stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA) survivors to engage in self-management practices to manage secondary stroke risk factors. We conducted a randomized, regional pilot trial of a locally adapted, secondary stroke prevention program. We implemented the program at two Veterans Administration Medical Centers. Program sessions targeted stroke risk factor self-management. Specifically, we evaluated the effect of the program on the reach, implementation, and effectiveness on patient self-efficacy; stroke-specific, health-related quality of life; and medication adherence for the prevalent stroke r...

Sex differences in outcomes after stroke among patients with low total cholesterol levels: a large hospital-based prospective study
ConclusionsThese findings suggest that patients (both men and women) with atherothrombotic infarction who have low TC levels would not benefit from receiving statin treatment. Therefore, it is crucial to explore the impact of statin treatment on outcomes in Asian patients, especially Chinese patients with atherothrombotic and low TC levels, in order to improve outcomes after stroke and reduce the disease burden.

Transient ischemic attack and ischemic stroke patients with or without prior stroke
ConclusionsBoth in TIA and IS, vascular risk factors were more common in patients with a history of stroke compared with those without. In contrast to other secondary preventive medications, OAC treatment in the presence of AF was underutilized in patients with a history of stroke.

Suboptimal lipid management before and after ischaemic stroke and TIA —the North Dublin Population Stroke Study
ConclusionsIn this population-based study, LLT recommended by international guidelines was under-used, before and after index stroke/TIA. Strategies to improve adherence are needed.

Primary Prevention of Stroke in Argentina: a Missed Opportunity? Data from the ARENAS Registry (P1.111)
CONCLUSIONS: this study provides data on stroke risk factors prevalence and control in an Argentine cohort. Our results show a high percentage of at-risk patients without adequate control in the primary prevention setting, denoting a missing opportunity to reduce the burden of stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Atallah has nothing to disclose. Neuroprotective Effect of Pre-Stroke Statin Therapy in a Cohort of Elderly Ischemic Stroke Patients (P03.195)
CONCLUSIONS: Pre-stroke statin treatment is strongly associated with improved functionality and cognition in elderly patients. Mortality and recurrence rates were similar in all patients, independently of pre-stroke statin treatment.Disclosure: Dr. Alonzo has nothing to disclose. Dr. Ramirez Campos has nothing to disclose.
