Deprescribing Antihypertensive Medications for Patients Aged 80 or Older
The treatment of hypertension in older adults is a major public health concern. Among the nearly 13 million persons in the United States aged 80 years or older, approximately 80% have high blood pressure (BP). Hypertension is the most potent modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease in older adults and has been strongly associated with stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure, peripheral artery disease, kidney failure, and dementia. Thus, defining optimal strategies for managing elevated BP in older individuals is a high priority.

Hypertension Prevalence Among Adults Aged 18 and Over: United States, 2017-2018.
This report provides 2017-2018 U.S. hypertension prevalence estimates using the 2017 American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association definition of hypertension (3) and new guidelines, which redefine hypertension by lowering the previous threshold levels of 140/90 mmHg to 130/80 mmHg (4). This change categorizes a greater percentage of people as having hypertension.

The prevalence of obesity in the United States has spiked from 30.5% in 1999 to 2000 to 42.4% in 2017 to 2018.1 By the year 2030, an estimated 85% of adults in the US will be overweight or obese.1 Individuals who are obese are at increased risk for many health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, mental illness, and all-causes of death.1 Incorporating healthy weight management strategies is a necessary intervention that benefits health in the long-term, including prevention of chronic illnesses.

High blood pressure during pregnancy associated with more bothersome menopause symptoms
(The North American Menopause Society (NAMS)) Women with high blood pressure during pregnancy are at an increased risk for chronic hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, stroke, and early cardiovascular death. A new study suggests that they may also be at risk for more bothersome menopause symptoms, including hot flashes. Study results are published online today in Menopause, the journal of The North American Menopause Society (NAMS).

ConclusionsThere was a significant increase in the number of ATAAD at NDTH during the study period while the number at MGH remained stable. Hypertension was a common major risk factor; however, the onset of ATAAD at NDTH was nearly one decade earlier than MGH. Chinese patients tended to have more complicated preoperative pathophysiology at presentation and underwent more extensive surgical repair.

Anesthetic management for robotic hysterectomy in obese women
Purpose of review
Obesity is a major health epidemic, with the prevalence reaching ∼40% in the United States in recent years. It is associated with increased risk of hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and gynecologic conditions requiring surgery. Those comorbidities, in addition to the physiologic changes associated with obesity, lead to increased risk of perioperative complications. The purpose of this review is to highlight the anesthetic considerations for robotic assisted hysterectomy in obese patients.

Cardiovascular health status of taxi/for-hire vehicle drivers in the United States: A systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Rigorous and high quality research is needed to further investigate rates of cardiovascular health in this population. The complexity of data collection in this group presents challenges to this endeavor.
