Depressive symptoms and cardiovascular diseases in the adult Polish population. Results of the NATPOL2011 study.
CONCLUSIONS: Depressive symptoms were more prevalent in women compared to men, and they were significantly and inde-pendently associated with age and primary education level in both sexes, and with a history of stroke in women. PMID: 30406941 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

What Causes Facial Nerve Palsy?
Discussion Facial nerve palsy has been known for centuries, but in 1821 unilateral facial nerve paralysis was described by Sir Charles Bell. Bell’s palsy (BP) is a unilateral, acute facial paralysis that is clinically diagnosed after other etiologies have been excluded by appropriate history, physical examination and/or laboratory testing or imaging. Symptoms include abnormal movement of facial nerve. It can be associated with changes in facial sensation, hearing, taste or excessive tearing. The right and left sides are equally affected but bilateral BP is rare (0.3%). Paralysis can be complete or incomplete at prese...

Clinical characteristics of patients with myocardial infarction treated in the regional hospital of Radomszczanski District in 2007-2009.
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the increase of the hospitalised STEMI/NSTEMI ratio, the incidence of risk factors did not change in the population of Radomszczanski District over the analysed period. PMID: 25347198 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association between Exposure to p,p ′-DDT and Its Metabolite p,p′-DDE with Obesity: Integrated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: We classified p,p′-DDT and p,p′-DDE as “presumed” to be obesogenic for humans, based on a moderate level of primary human evidence, a moderate level of primary in vivo evidence, and a moderate level of supporting evidence from in vivo and in vitro studies. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP527 Received: 17 May 2016 Revised: 04 May 2017 Accepted: 09 May 2017 Published: 18 September 2017 Please address correspondence to M.A. La Merrill, Dept. of Environmental Toxicology, University of California, Davis, 1 Shields Ave., 4245 Meyer Hall, Davis, CA 95616-5270 USA. Favourable hypotensive effect after standardised tomato extract treatment in hypertensive subjects at high estimated cardiovascular risk - a randomised controlled trial.
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study show that the addition of STE to standard antihypertensive therapy improves blood pressure control in hypertensive patients with high CV risk. This effect, together with the anti-aggregation effect, may indicate the pleiotropic effect of tomato extract. This fact justifies further research into functional foods and gives new insights into STE as a food supplement that could have new therapeutic and prophylactic uses for the treatment of hypertensive patients with high CV risk and especially with obesity. An association between the risk of obstructive sleep apnea, as measured by stop-bang questionnaire and arterial hypertension in the adult population in Poland
Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea is a common chronic medical condition strongly linked with obesity. Obstructive sleep apnea has been associated with cardiovascular morbidity such as arterial hypertension, stroke and heart failure, but the majority of these studies were done in sleep laboratory populations of predominantly male subjects. We hypothesize that obstructive sleep apnea will be associated with arterial hypertension in both genders in the general population.

Periodontal condition in patients of the specialist Outpatient Clinics at the Institute of Rural Health in Lublin, Poland.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients of specialist clinics of the Institute of Rural Health who formed the analyzed group, had affected periodontium which required comprehensive periodontal treatment. The alarmingly high percentage of people over 55 years of age with advanced periodontopathy may translate into an increased risk of cause-and-effect incidence of systemic diseases. Predictors of periprocedural complications in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions within coronary bypass grafts.
CONCLUSIONS: Percutaneous coronary interventions of SVG is associated with increased risk of specific periprocedural complications. The ACS, slower TIMI flow before PCI and thrombectomy significantly increase the periprocedural complication rate in patients undergoing PCI of SVG. PMID: 29671862 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Characteristics of patients presenting with myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) in Poland: data from the ORPKI national registry
AbstractMyocardial infarction (MI) with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) is an important clinical problem especially in the era of extensive utilization of coronary angiography in MI patients. Its pathophysiology is poorly understood which makes diagnostics and treatment of MINOCA challenging in everyday clinical practice. The aim of the study was to assess characteristics of MINOCA patients in Poland based on data from the Polish National ORPKI Registry. In 2016, 49,893 patients with non-ST-segment elevation (NSTEMI) or ST-segment elevation (STEMI) myocardial infarction entered the ORPKI registry. MINOCA was def...

Sex Difference of Radiation Response in Occupational and Accidental Exposure
Conclusion and Outlook This review summarizes the data from major human studies on the health risks of radiation exposure and shows that sex can potentially influence the prolonged response to radiation exposure (Figure 1 and Tables 1, 2). These data suggest that long-term radiosensitivity in females is higher than that in males who receive a comparable dose of radiation. Our analysis of the literature agrees with the conclusions of the recent report on the Biological effects of ionizing radiation (BEIR VII) published in 2006 by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), United States (National Research Council, 2006). The B...
