Correlation between Immune-Inflammatory Markers and Clinical Features in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Immune-inflammatory markers dynamically increased from symptom onset of acute ischemic stroke in patients eligible for thrombolytic therapy. Higher levels of immune-inflammatory markers suggest more in-hospital complications and unfavorable short-term outcomes.PMID:34018169

E-108 Endovascular treatment of patients with acute ischemic stroke due to underlying arterial dissection: a nationwide analysis
ConclusionsDespite a similar prevalence among patients admitted for AIS, CA dissections are associated with a higher rate of endovascular intervention and poorer short-term outcomes compared to VA dissections. This study provides essential epidemiologic and outcome data for the cerebrovascular neurosurgeon.Abstract E-108 Table 1Comparison of clinical characteristics and outcomes among patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke due to carotid or vertebral artery dissections Characteristic Vertebral Artery Dissection, N = 2,562 Carotid Artery Dissection, N = 2,789 p-value1 Age (years), Mean (SD) 53 (17) 57 (17) <0.00...

Thrombolytic Therapy for Acute Ischemic Stroke: Past and Future.
CONCLUSION: Thrombolytic therapy is sometimes accompanied by harmful hemorrhagic insults; accordingly, a window of time wherein therapy can safely be performed has been established for this approach. Several basic and clinical studies are ongoing to develop next-generation thrombolytic drugs to expand the time window. PMID: 30892155 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The impact of cerebrovascular disease in Panama
ConclusionSince 2013, both hospitals' intravenous thrombolytic therapy program has been successfully applied as public health policy. A successful campaign on healthy lifestyle must be strengthened through a comprehensive approach with other public sectors in order to have an impact on the population, particularly in children and adolescents.

IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 3659: Sex-Related Disparities in the Incidence and Outcomes of Ischemic Stroke among Type 2 Diabetes Patients. A Matched-Pair Analysis Using the Spanish National Hospital Discharge Database for Years 2016 –2018
Conclusions: T2DM is associated with higher incidence of IS in both sexes. Men with T2DM have a higher incidence rates of IS than T2DM women. Women with T2DM have a higher risk of dying in the hospital.

Hemorrhagic Transformation during Thrombolytic Therapy and Reperfusion: Effects of Age, Blood Pressure, and Matrix Metalloproteinases
Background: Despite the increasing use of thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic transformation remains a significant complication. Transformation appears to occur more frequently with age, diabetes, and hypertension, but clinical data are mixed. In addition to risk factors, matrix metalloproteinase expression mediates hemorrhage. We sought to test the effects of age, hypertension, and matrix metalloproteinases during recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) treatment in a standard model of filament occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. Methods: We compared young and aged rats who were geneti...
