Clinical Outcomes and Healthcare Resource Utilization in a Real-World Population Reflecting the DAPA-CKD Trial Participants
ConclusionThe significant adverse renal and cardiovascular outcomes observed, particularly in the DAPA-CKD-like cohort, represent a substantial burden resulting in increased mortality, HCRU and costs, demonstrating the need for additional treatment options.

Prehabilitation Coming of Age: IMPLICATIONS FOR CARDIAC AND PULMONARY REHABILITATION.
Abstract While cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs traditionally involve exercise therapy and risk management following an event (eg, myocardial infarction and stroke), or an intervention (eg, coronary artery bypass surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention), prehabilitation involves enhancing functional capacity and optimizing risk profile prior to a scheduled intervention. The concept of prehabilitation is based on the principle that patients with higher functional capabilities will better tolerate an intervention, and will have better pre- and post-surgical outcomes. In addition to improving fitn...

Akebia saponin D ameliorates metabolic syndrome (MetS) via remodeling gut microbiota and attenuating intestinal barrier injury
Biomed Pharmacother. 2021 Feb 27;138:111441. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2021.111441. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetabolic syndrome (MetS) is a complex, multifactorial disease which lead to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke. However, selective, and potent drugs for the treatment of MetS are still lacking. Previous studies have found that Akebia saponin D (ASD) has beneficial effects on metabolic diseases such as obesity, atherosclerosis, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Therefore, our study was designed to determine the effect and mechanism of action of ASD against MetS in ...

The Modified Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration Equation for the Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate is Better Associated with Comorbidities than Other Equations in Living Kidney Donors in Japan
Conclusion We found that the eGFR/Jm-CKD-EPI correlated better with comorbidities than the eGFR/Jm-eGFR and eGFR/Jm-MDRD in Japanese LKT donors. We recommend using the eGFR/Jm-CKD-EPI for the initial assessment of the renal function in LKT donor candidates when evaluating the presence of associated comorbidities.PMID:33716291 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.6934-20

Effective chemotherapy and targeted therapy supplemented with stereotactic radiotherapy of a patient with metastatic colon cancer following renal transplantation: a case report
ConclusionsSince information is scarce regarding oncological treatment of patients following organ transplantation, data about their oncological treatment is essential. To our knowledge, this is the first case report to describe the successful chemotherapy and targeted therapy supplemented with stereotactic radiotherapy of a posttransplant patient with metastatic colorectal cancer.

Concomitant Mitochondrial Diabetes and Myopathy Mistook for Complications of Immunosuppressants After Kidney Transplant
We report the case of a 48-year-old woman with diabetes mellitus, sensorineural hearing loss, and severe myopathy without neuropathy after deceased donor kidney transplant. ShehadamitochondrialDNApointmutation at position 3243 (A>G), and mitochondrial diseases such as maternally inherited diabetes deafness or mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodeswere suspected.Diabetes andother symptoms following kidney transplant can often be overlooked as complications of immunosuppressants taken after kidney transplant. However, in patients without a known cause of their symptoms, appropriate exam...
