Improvement of survival in Polish stroke patients is related to reduced stroke severity and better control of risk factors: the Krakow Stroke Database.
CONCLUSIONS: Reduced stroke severity is associated with better recognition and control of risk factors and explains the improvement of survival in Polish stroke patients. PMID: 27279847 [PubMed]

Importance rating of risk factors of ischemic stroke in patients over 85 years old in the polish population.
CONCLUSION: The course of brain stroke in the Polish population is more severe in patients over 85 years old than in younger ones. The key risk factor in this group is atrial fibrillation. PMID: 29196059 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The association of vertebrobasilar calcification with etiological subtypes, stroke recurrence and outcome in acute brainstem ischemic stroke
Publication date: March 2018Source: Neurologia i Neurochirurgia Polska, Volume 52, Issue 2Author(s): Elif Gökçal, Elvin Niftaliyev, Tuğçe Özdemir, Mehmet Kolukısa, Talip AsilAbstractArterial calcification (AC), a frequent finding on imaging studies, has been reported as a risk factor for ischemic stroke. However few studies have explored the association of AC with etiological subtypes and prognostic implications. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of AC with demograhics, risk factors and etiological subtypes and to determine whether it predicts stroke recurrence and functional outcome in pat...

Relevance of admission hyperglycaemia and diabetes mellitus to efficacy and safety of mechanical thrombectomy in stroke patients
CONCLUSIONS: Diabetes mellitus has a neutral effect on the angiographic and clinical outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy in stroke patients. It does not increase the risk of intracranial haemorrhage after instrumental therapy. It is admission hyperglycaemia, rather than diabetes mellitus, that is a predictor of poor functional status in patients treated with thrombectomy. According to our results, the patient's neurological status, age, and the outcome of thrombectomy are relevant to the functional status in the acute ischaemic stroke period.PMID:36394219 | DOI:10.5603/PJNNS.a2022.0063

Polymorphism of Interleukin 1B May Modulate the Risk of Ischemic Stroke in Polish Patients.
Conclusions: Our results suggest that the C allele of IL1B rs1143627 may be associated with susceptibility to overall IS and LVI subtypes of stroke in the Polish population. PMID: 31480765 [PubMed - in process]

Comparison of the risk of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and diabetes among the selected group of football referees and the group of general population men from Northern Poland - a pilot study
CONCLUSIONS: Thanks to properly planned and systematically continued physical activity, despite non-compliance with certain pro-health principles (increased sweet supply and consumption of alcoholic beverages), football referees are characterized by the correct body fat volume and low level of visceral adipose tissue. The parameters were found to be markedly higher in the control group of randomly selected men from the general population. The risk of diabetes, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases among football referees was found to be very low.PMID:35587065 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202205_28732
