Erectile Dysfunction as an Independent Predictor of Future Cardiovascular Events: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis.
Abstract Vascular erectile dysfunction (ED) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) share common risk factors including obesity, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, and smoking. ED and CVD also have common underlying pathological mechanisms, including endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, and atherosclerosis.1 Despite these close relationships, the evidence documenting ED as an independent predictor of future CVD events is limited. We therefore leveraged the MESA study (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis), an ethnically diverse, community-based, multisite prospective cohort study, to examine the value...

Effects of different exercise modalities on cardiac dysfunction in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
ConclusionsIn this metabolic rat model of HFpEF at an advanced stage, Ca2+ release was impaired under baseline conditions. HIIT and MICT differentially affected Ca2+ homeostasis with positive effects of MICT on stroke volume, end ‐diastolic volume, and cellular arrhythmogenicity.

Associations of general health conditions with masticatory performance and maximum bite force in older adults: A systematic review of cross-sectional studies
CONCLUSIONS: Negative associations between masticatory function of older adults and presence of several systemic diseases have been reported in a number of studies while there are positive associations between masticatory function and some physical function indicators.CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This study provides valuable information on the association of masticatory function with general health, which draws clinicians' attention to the masticatory function of older adults who suffer from certain systemic diseases or physical dysfunction, and to the need to improve their masticatory ability to achieve healthy aging.PMID:35691...

The epidemiology, mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease in adult patients with HIV
This article discusses the complex interactions involving HIV infection, the novel and traditional risk factors for CVD, and the antiretroviral HIV therapies which can contribute to CVD in HIV-infected people. In addition, the treatment of HIV+ patients with acute myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiomyopathy/heart failure are discussed. Current recommended ART and their major side effects are summarized in table format. All medical personnel must be aware of the increasing incidence of CVD on the morbidity and mortality in HIV infected patients and must be watchful for the presence of CVD in their patients with HIV.PM...

Elevated Aminotransferase Levels and Intracerebral Hemorrhage Deaths in a General Japanese Population
Int Heart J. 2023;64(4):678-683. doi: 10.1536/ihj.23-027.ABSTRACTAlthough chronic liver disease has been associated with cardiovascular disease, to which metabolic syndrome might be related, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) generally has not been focused. Associations of chronic liver disease assessed by aspartate (AST) and alanine (ALT) aminotransferase levels with ICH deaths were examined using 15,952 subjects without a history of cardiovascular disease who underwent annual health checkups in 1997 in Japan. Proportional hazards regression analyses adjusted for age, sex, hypertension, current smoking, diabetes mellitus, dri...
