Hospital outcomes in non-surgical patients identified at risk for OSA
ConclusionsFurther prospective studies are needed to understand the contribution of undiagnosed OSA to in-hospital respiratory outcomes.

Deep learning approach for diabetes prediction using PIMA Indian dataset
ConclusionThe outcome of the study confirms that DL provides the best results with the most promising extracted features. DL achieves the accuracy of 98.07% which can be used for further development of the automatic prognosis tool. The accuracy of the DL approach can further be enhanced by including the omics data for prediction of the onset of the disease.

Prevalence, incidence, and outcomes across cardiovascular diseases in homeless individuals using national linked electronic health records
Conclusion  CVD in homeless individuals has high prevalence, incidence, and 1-year mortality risk post-diagnosis with earlier onset, and high burden of risk factors. Inclusion health and social care strategies should reflect this high preventable and treatable burden, which is increasingly important in the current COVID-19 context.

Electronic Medical Record Risk Modeling of Cardiovascular Outcomes Among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
ConclusionsThe Ochsner model overestimated 5-year CHD risk, but had relatively higher calibration than the other models in CHD. Risk equations fitted for local populations improved cardiovascular risk stratification for patients with T2DM. Application of machine learning simplified the models compared to “generalized” risk equations.

Effects of ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers: protocol for a UK cohort study using routinely collected electronic health records with validation against the ONTARGET trial
Introduction Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death globally, responsible for nearly 18 million deaths worldwide in 2017. Medications to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events are prescribed based on evidence from clinical trials which explore treatment effects in an indicated sample of the general population. However, these results may not be fully generalisable because of trial eligibility criteria that generally restrict to younger patients with fewer comorbidities. Therefore, evidence of effectiveness of medications for groups underrepresented in clinical trials such as those aged ≥75 years, from ethni...

Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in Women With and Without Breast Cancer: The Pathways Heart Study
CONCLUSION: Women with BC had increased incidence of CVD events, CVD-related mortality, and all-cause mortality compared with women without BC, and risks varied according to the history of cancer treatment received. Studies are needed to determine how women who received BC treatment should be cared for to improve cardiovascular outcomes.PMID:35385342 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.21.01736

Relationship of diabetes, heart failure, and N ‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide with cardiovascular outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsDiabetes and HF were independently associated with an increased risk of CV death/HHF in an unselected AF patient population, and NT-proBNP improved risk assessment. These findings suggest that AF patients with diabetes and/or HF should be managed not only for their risk of stroke and systemic embolic events but also for CV death/HHF.

Outcome of transcatheter atrial septal defect closure in a nationwide cohort
CONCLUSION: After TC closure of ASD, patients had a higher risk of new-onset atrial fibrillation and migraine than controls without ASD. As novel findings, we found an increased risk for ischemic heart disease, AV conduction disorders, and ventricular fibrillation/tachycardia.Key messagesEven though patients have an excellent overall prognosis after percutaneous ASD closure, the increased incidence of major comorbidities like atrial fibrillation and heart failure prompts more thorough lifelong follow-up.This study's novel findings revealed the increased risk for ischemic heart disease, AV conduction disorders, or ventricul...

Perioperative adverse cardiac events and mortality after non-cardiac surgery: a multicenter study
CONCLUSIONS: A nationwide multicenter study showed that PACE was significantly associated with increased one-year mortality. This association was stronger in high-risk surgery, older, male, and chronic kidney disease subgroups. Further studies to improve mortality associated with PACE are needed.PMID:37169362 | DOI:10.4097/kja.23043
