Antithrombotic Management of Stroke Patients Before Colonoscopy
Conclusions: In this retrospective analysis, there was no significant difference in the occurrence of stroke, myocardial infarction, venous thromboembolism, and major bleeding between patients who had medications continued around the time of colonoscopy versus those who had temporary discontinuation. A prospective, randomized controlled study is warranted to further elucidate this issue.

C-reactive Protein and Homocysteine Predict Long-term Mortality in Young Ischemic Stroke Patients
Conclusions: There is an independent association between CRP and homocysteine levels obtained several years after ischemic stroke in young adults and subsequent mortality, even when adjusting for traditional risk factors. This association seems to continue for at least 12 years after the measurements.

Prediction of Major Vascular Events after Stroke: The Stroke Prevention by Aggressive Reduction in Cholesterol Levels Trial
Conclusions: Both a baseline FCRS of 20% or more and a novel predictive model were associated with future MVEs in SPARCL trial subjects. The novel model needs to be validated, and the benefits of using either the FCRS or the novel model in clinical practice needs to be assessed.

Functional Outcome After Common Poststroke Complications Occurring in the First 90 Days Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Recurrent stroke and chest infections were strongly associated with a worsened outcome. Other infections and falls were associated with less worsening. For myocardial infarction, urinary tract infections, and pain no association with functional outcome was found. Active strategies for prevention and early treatment of the first 2 complications seem advisable; patient monitoring as part of comprehensive stroke unit care should ensure timely identification and treatment of all complications.

Rivaroxaban Versus Dabigatran or Warfarin in Real-World Studies of Stroke Prevention in Atrial Fibrillation Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—In this systematic review and meta-analysis, rivaroxaban was as effective as dabigatran, but was more effective than warfarin for the prevention of stroke/thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation patients. Major bleeding risk was significantly higher with rivaroxaban than with dabigatran, as was all-cause mortality and gastrointestinal bleeding. Rivaroxaban was comparable to warfarin for major bleeding, with an increased risk in gastrointestinal bleeding and decreased risk of intracranial hemorrhage.

Endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke in octogenarians compared with younger patients: a meta‐analysis
ConclusionFormal meta‐analysis showed that octogenarians are less likely to achieve functional independence and have higher rates of mortality and intracerebral hemorrhage following endovascular treatment for ischemic stroke compared with younger patients. Decisions regarding endovascular treatment of elderly patients should be individualized until randomized controlled trials are available.
