Risk of Coronary Heart Disease and Ischemic Stroke Incidence in Gastric Cancer Survivors: A Nationwide Study in Korea.
CONCLUSIONS: CHD and ischemic stroke risk decreased after gastrectomy. The amount of weight loss and accompanying metabolic changes seemed to mediate the reduction of such risk. Reassessment of cardiovascular risk factors after gastrectomy and consideration of cardiovascular risk in the selection of treatment modality are suggested. An Association Between Herpes Zoster Vaccination and Stroke Reduction Among Elderly Individuals.
Authors: Klaric JS, Beltran TA, McClenathan BM Abstract Herpes zoster (HZ, shingles) affects individuals (60+ years) by reactivation of varicella virus from primary infection. Approximately one-third of the general population will develop HZ and are at increased risk of stroke. Our objective was describing possible associations between self-reported HZ vaccination and stroke with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System, a cross-sectional nationwide telephone survey. Non-institutionalized U.S. adults answered items concerning health risk behaviors. 2014 survey dat...

C-reactive Protein and Stroke Risk in Blacks and Whites: the REasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke Cohort
ConclusionsCRP may not be equally useful in stroke risk assessment in blacks and whites. Confirmation, similar study for coronary heart disease, and identification of reasons for these racial differences require further study.

Estimation of 10-Year Risk of Death from Coronary Heart Disease, Stroke, and Cardiovascular Disease in a Pooled Analysis of Japanese Cohorts: EPOCH-JAPAN.
CONCLUSIONS: Risk equations in the present study can adequately estimate the absolute 10-year risk of death from CHD, stroke, and CVD. Future work will evaluate the system as an education and risk communication tool for primary prevention of CHD and stroke. PMID: 33041313 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

National prevalence of coronary heart disease and stroke in South Africa from 1990-2017: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: There are very few studies on national prevalence of CHD and stroke in South Africa. Well-structured registries for CHD and stroke are required to accurately identify the disease burden and enable adequate resources to be allocated for the implementation of appropriate prevention and management programmes.PMID:33769427 | DOI:10.5830/CVJA-2020-045
