Vitamin D status, genetic factors, and risk of cardiovascular disease among individuals with type 2 diabetes: a prospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Higher serum 25(OH)D concentrations were significantly associated with lower risks of total CVD and IHD among patients with T2D, regardless of genetic susceptibility and genetic variants in VDR. Risk reductions tended to plateau at serum 25(OH)D levels around 50 nmol/L. These findings suggest that maintaining adequate vitamin D status and avoiding deficiency may help to prevent CVD complications among patients with T2D.PMID:35771998 | DOI:10.1093/ajcn/nqac183

ConclusionsGenetically predicted increase in Vit-D status [25(OH)D] may confer secondary protection against incident combined CVD events and myocardial infarction in a hypertensive-diabetic population where serological 25(OH)D deficiency is common, through facilitating blood pressure control.

Low Vitamin D Levels Predict Left Atrial Thrombus in Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation
We determined the association between left atrial (LA) thrombus occurrence and a non-classic risk marker, plasma levels of vitamin D, in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients on continuous non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant (NOAC) therapy for ≥4 weeks. Low levels of plasma 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25-OHD) are predictive of fatal stroke. Vitamin D has anticoagulant effects on the coagulation cascade, which are indirectly targeted by NOAC therapy. The impact of plasma levels of vitamin D on the rate of LA thrombus detected by transesophagea l echocardiography (TEE) in AF patients is unknown.

Effect of Vitamin D Level on Clinical Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation.
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with LVAD, both deficiency and insufficiency of 25-OH vitamin D levels are independently associated with increased postoperative driveline infection risk and higher rate of readmission. Further trials are needed to confirm whether a repletion regimen could be a promising means of decreasing the risk for these postoperative adverse events. Low vitamin D status in relation to cardiovascular disease and mortality in Swedish women – Effect of extended follow-up
Conclusion Low 25D status increased the risk for all endpoints, but a lengthy follow-up diminished these risks towards the null. The impact of follow-up depends on the outcome. Future studies of 25D and disease should use repeated 25D assessments.
