Association between Fok1 and TaqI polymorphisms of vitamin D receptor gene with the severity of stenosis and calcification in carotid bulb in patients with ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: There may be a biological association between the FokI VDR gene and carotid bulb calcification.PMID:35091316 | DOI:10.1016/j.jocn.2022.01.009

Mendelian randomization analysis of vitamin D in the secondary prevention of hypertensive-diabetic subjects: role of facilitating blood pressure control
ConclusionsGenetically predicted increase in Vit-D status [25(OH)D] may confer secondary protection against incident combined CVD events and myocardial infarction in a hypertensive-diabetic population where serological 25(OH)D deficiency is common, through facilitating blood pressure control.

Vitamin D supplementation and prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer in the Finnish Vitamin D Trial-a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Vitamin D3 supplementation did not lower the incidence of major CVD events or invasive cancer among older adults, possibly due to sufficient vitamin D status in most participants at baseline. Clinical Trial Registry number: ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT01463813, https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01463813.PMID:34982819 | DOI:10.1093/ajcn/nqab419

A repeated measures approach to pooled and calibrated biomarker data
Biometrics. 2021 Dec 30. doi: 10.1111/biom.13618. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTParticipant level meta-analysis across multiple studies increases the sample size for pooled analyses, thereby improving precision in effect estimates and enabling subgroup analyses. For analyses involving biomarker measurements as an exposure of interest, investigators must first calibrate the data to address measurement variability arising from usage of different laboratories and/or assays. In practice, the calibration process involves reassaying a random subset of biospecimens from each study at a central laboratory and fitting models that r...

Research Progress on the Correlation Between Vitamin D and Neurological Disorders
Conclusion VD deficiency is very common in the population and is associated with a variety of neurological diseases. VD, a neuroactive steroid, plays an important role in the protection of the central nervous system. In contrast, stroke can cause epilepsy and varying degrees of changes in cognitive function. Furthermore, seizure and epilepsy can cause changes in cognitive function. The degree of alteration in cognitive function affects the occurrence and progression of stroke and epilepsy. Therefore, VD can be used for the comprehensive treatment of neurological diseases.PMID:34936071 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.34816-21.1

Weak UVB Irradiation Promotes Macrophage M2 Polarization and Stabilizes Atherosclerosis
AbstractAtherosclerosis (AS) is a chronic cardiovascular disease endangering human health and is one of the most common causes of myocardial infarction and stroke. Macrophage polarization plays a vital role in regulating plaque stability. As an important component of sunlight, ultraviolet B (UVB) has been proven to promote vitamin D and nitric oxide synthesis. This research used an AS model in ApoE−/− mice to study the effects of UVB on macrophage polarization and atherosclerotic plaque stability. In vitro, UVB irradiation increased arginase-I (Arg-I, M2 macrophage) and macrophage mannose receptor (CD206) expression, w...

The role of rehabilitation and vitamin D supplementation on motor and psychological outcomes in poststroke patients
Post-Stroke depression affects between 12% and 72% of patients who have suffered a stroke. The association between low serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH) D) and increased risk of depression is reported in both stroke and non-stroke patients. Similarly, high 25(OH) D levels might be associated with greater functional improvement during rehabilitation program. We wanted to investigate the effects of an intensive rehabilitation on poststroke outcomes. We wondered if the daily rehabilitation of motor and cognitive functions could also have an effect on mood and functional abilities in addition to or as an alternati...
