The Effect of Metformin on Vitamin B12 Deficiency and Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: T2DM is a significant risk factor to the development of ischemic stroke. We found an association between metformin use and vitamin B12 deficiency and an association between vitamin B12 deficiency and stroke risk in patients with T2DM. Diabetic patients who are taking metformin should monitor their vitamin B12 level.PMID:36841981

We appreciate the letter by Dr. Spence advocating the use of methylcobalamin or hydroxycobalamin rather than the cyanocoblamin form of vitamin B12 (B12) in future clinical trials investigating the efficacy of B vitamins to prevent or treat NASH. This is similar to the concern that he raised previously for studies that employed B12 in the prevention of stroke 1,2. Hyperhomocysteinemia in cardiovascular diseases: revisiting observational studies and clinical trials
In conclusion, revisiting observational studies and clinical trials suggests that cardiovascular patients should be screened for hyperhomocysteinemia, when no other risk factor is found. Patients with intermediate/major hyperhomocysteinemia should be properly assessed and treated for vitamin B deficiencies and inherited disorders according to current guidelines. We report on the thromboembolic complications, a less known side effect, associated with recreational inhalation of nitrous oxide. An extensive literature search was performed for publications reporting on the thromboembolic complications associated with recreational nitrous oxide abuse. A Study of Srum Homocysteine Level in Ischaemic Stoke
CONCLUSION: The present study revealed that hyperhomocysteinemia appears to be an important risk factor for ischemic stroke. It is therefore important to use serum homocysteine as an important tool to investigate all cases of ischemic stroke and if serum homocysteine is elevated patient should be put on multivitamins containing vitamin B12, folic acid and pyridoxine to reduce serum homocysteine levels.PMID:35443421
