The Polyherbal Functional Ingredient Containing Ginger, Chinese Date, and Wood Ear Mushroom Protects against Dementia following Metabolic Syndrome
This study was performed to test this hypothesis and to explore the underlying mechanism. Male Wistar rats weighing 180-220 g were induced metabolic syndrome (MetS) with a 16-week high-carbohydrate high-fat diet (HCHF) feeding. The rats with MetS characteristics were orally administered GCJ at various doses (GCJ100, GCJ200, and GCJ300 mg kg-1 BW) 21 days pre-induction and 21 days post-induction of reperfusion injury (I/R) at the right middle cerebral artery (MCAO). Memory was evaluated every 7 days during the study period. At the end of the study, neuron density, AChE activity, and the expressions of eNOS, BDNF, and pERK/E...

Mechanism of Tao Hong Decoction in the treatment of atherosclerosis based on network pharmacology and experimental validation
CONCLUSION: THD plays a vital role in treating AS with multiple targets and pathways. Angiogenesis regulation, oxidative stress regulation, and immunity regulation consist of the crucial regulation cores in the mechanism. This study identified essential genes and pathways associated with the prognosis and pathogenesis of AS from new insights, demonstrating a feasible method for researching THD's chemical basis and pharmacology.PMID:36776258 | PMC:PMC9909180 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2023.1111475

Influence of Management of Intensive Weight, Blood Pressure, and Lipids on Disease Severity in Patients with Carotid Atherosclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: A program for management of body weight, blood pressure, and blood lipids can effectively control the severity of carotid atherosclerosis, can prevent the disease's progression, and can be promoted as a clinical application.PMID:36455146

Guanmaitong Granule Attenuates Atherosclerosis by Inhibiting Inflammatory Immune Response in ApoE < sup > -/- < /sup > Mice Fed High-Fat Diet
CONCLUSION: Radix notoginseng, Radix salviae liguliobae, and Radix astragali are the main ingredients of GMTG for treating AS. Further, GMTG could regulate the level of serum lipids and inhibit inflammatory immune response, which resulted in anti-AS effects such as plaque stabilization, reduction of plaque burden, and plaque remodeling. GMTG is a promising multi-target treatment for AS.PMID:36148321 | PMC:PMC9489104 | DOI:10.2147/DDDT.S372143

Association between dietary patterns and stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in China: a propensity score-matched analysis
CONCLUSION: This study provides sufficient evidence to support the dietary intervention strategies to prevent stroke effectively. Maintaining a Balanced dietary pattern, especially with moderate consumption of foods rich in quality protein and fresh vegetables in T2DM patients, might decrease the risk of stroke in China.PMID:35356874 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980022000763

Chemical Composition, Protective Effects, and Mechanisms of Volatile Oil from Fructus Gleditsiae Abnormalis with Nasal Administration against Ischemic Injury in HFD and MCAO-Induced Rats
This study is aimed to analyze the constituents of the volatile oil in FGA (VOFGA) using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and explore the underlying effects and mechanisms of VOFGA in the prevention and treatment of ischemia stroke. An in vivo ischemia model was constructed by combination treatment of high-fat diet (HFD) and middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) method. After administration, the cerebral infarction volume, the brain water content, hemorheology, blood lipids, inflammatory factors, oxidative stress indicators, Bax, Bcl-2, and cleaved caspase-3 and histological examination (HE) were...

A Sharp Decline in Burden of Stroke in Rural China During COVID-19 Pandemic
This study aimed to explore trends in the burden from stroke associated with home quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patients with a first-ever stroke registered between January 1 and April 20 from 2010 to 2020 were included in this study. We compared the incidence and the rates of mortality, hospitalization, and diagnosis by neuroimaging for first-ever stroke among a low-income population in rural China during the study periods. Overall, 377 first-ever stroke patients were analyzed in this study period; men accounted for 59.2%. Compared with 2019, the incidence of first-ever stroke was 73.5% lower in 2020 (P < 0....
