A cyclic azapeptide ligand of the scavenger receptor CD36/SR-B2 reduces the atherosclerotic lesion progression and enhances plaque stability in apolipoprotein E-deficient mice
Front Pharmacol. 2023 May 30;14:1204905. doi: 10.3389/fphar.2023.1204905. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the arterial walls that develops at predisposed sites. As a major risk factor for adverse cardiovascular pathology, atherosclerosis can progress to myocardial infarction and stroke, due to the rupture of unstable atherosclerotic lesions. Macrophage uptake of modified lipoproteins and metabolic dysfunction contributes significantly to the initiation and development of atherosclerotic lesions. The cluster of differentiation 36 receptor [CD36 (SR-B2)] plays a key role in ather...

Effectiveness of Internet-based health management in patients with dyslipidemia: A four-year longitudinal study
CONCLUSIONS: The basic Internet-based health management platform in this study appears to be moderately successful and is a valuable and feasible application. Tobacco, dietary, and physical activity interventions provided significant protection against dyslipidemia in patients.PMID:37279608 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2023.04.004

Endothelial CCRL2 induced by disturbed flow promotes atherosclerosis via chemerin-dependent β2 integrin activation in monocytes
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that d-flow-induced CCRL2 promotes atherosclerotic plaque formation via a novel CCRL2-chemerin-β2 integrin axis, providing potential targets for the prevention or therapeutic intervention of atherosclerosis.PMID:37279540 | DOI:10.1093/cvr/cvad085

Television Viewing Time and All-cause and Cardiovascular Disease Mortality Among Japanese Adults with and without a History of Stroke or Myocardial Infarction
CONCLUSIONS: Prolonged TV viewing time was associated with higher risks of all-cause and CVD mortality in stroke or MI survivors and in persons without a history of them. It may be recommended to reduce sedentary time for stroke or MI survivors, independent of the level of physical activity.PMID:37225520 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63959

Deficiency of germinal center kinase TRAF2 and NCK-interacting kinase (TNIK) in B cells does not affect atherosclerosis
CONCLUSION: We here conclude that in hyperlipidemic ApoE-/- mice, B cell specific TNIK deficiency does not affect atherosclerosis.PMID:37215541 | PMC:PMC10196212 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2023.1171764

Association between dietary antioxidant capacity and atherosclerotic carotid stenosis in patients with ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: DTAC may influence the initiation and development of atherosclerosis, and, therefore, the risk of ischemic stroke.PMID:37210776 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2023.107148

Acrolein: formation, health hazards and its controlling by dietary polyphenols
Crit Rev Food Sci Nutr. 2023 May 19:1-14. doi: 10.1080/10408398.2023.2214625. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAcrolein, a highly reactive toxic aldehyde, is a common dietary and environmental contaminant which can also be generated endogenously. Exposure to acrolein has been positively associated with some pathological conditions, such as atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease. At the cellular level, acrolein induces various harmful effects, particularly protein adduction and oxidative damages. Polyphenols are a group of secondary plant metabolites ubiquitously presented in fruits, vegetables, an...

Evaluation of anti-atherosclerotic effects of Sitagliptin via modulation of the mTOR pathway in male rabbits
This study aimed to investigate the effect of Sitagliptin on the progression of atherosclerosis. Twenty-one male New Zealand White rabbits weighing 2-2.5 kg each were split into three groups: normal control, atherogenic control, and Sitagliptin-treated. The following parameters: serum triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), LDL, and a tissue autophagy marker (p62) using ELISA, aortic mRNA expression of mTORC1 marker using Real-Time Quantitative PCR(RT-qPCR), and histological inspection of the aorta were assessed. The mRNA expression of mTORC1 and the lipid profile of aortic tissue are considerably elevated in atherogen...

Heterozygosity for ADP-ribosylation factor 6 suppresses the burden and severity of atherosclerosis
PLoS One. 2023 May 10;18(5):e0285253. doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0285253. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis is the root cause of major cardiovascular diseases (CVD) such as myocardial infarction and stroke. ADP-ribosylation factor 6 (Arf6) is a ubiquitously expressed GTPase known to be involved in inflammation, vascular permeability and is sensitive to changes in shear stress. Here, using atheroprone, ApoE-/- mice, with a single allele deletion of Arf6 (HET) or wildtype Arf6 (WT), we demonstrate that reduction in Arf6 attenuates atherosclerotic plaque burden and severity. We found that plaque burden in the descending...

Role of Dickkopf-3 in Blood Pressure Regulation in Mice and Hypertensive Rats
CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that Dkk3 acts as peripheral and central regulator of BP by promoting VEGF expression and activating a VEGF/Akt/eNOS hypotensive axis.PMID:37144413 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.122.321744
