Life's Essential 8 and Risk of Stroke: A Prospective Community-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: The CVH score as assessed by the Life's Essential 8 metrics significantly predicted future stroke risk and arterial stiffness status.PMID:37466001 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.123.042525

Heterozygosity for ADP-ribosylation factor 6 suppresses the burden and severity of atherosclerosis
PLoS One. 2023 May 10;18(5):e0285253. doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0285253. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis is the root cause of major cardiovascular diseases (CVD) such as myocardial infarction and stroke. ADP-ribosylation factor 6 (Arf6) is a ubiquitously expressed GTPase known to be involved in inflammation, vascular permeability and is sensitive to changes in shear stress. Here, using atheroprone, ApoE-/- mice, with a single allele deletion of Arf6 (HET) or wildtype Arf6 (WT), we demonstrate that reduction in Arf6 attenuates atherosclerotic plaque burden and severity. We found that plaque burden in the descending...

Risk of stroke following antivenom use after venomous snakebite: correspondence
We read with great interest the epidemiological study by Hunget al.1 on the risk of stroke with antivenom use after venomous snakebite in Taiwan. According to the national medical claims data, the authors provide us with useful information and disclose that venomous snakebite is associated with an increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke after the use of antivenom after using the matching propensity score in relevant measurable covariates. We strongly agree with the comments by Yehet al.2 on the unmeasured confounders associated with stroke in the present study. Furthermore, we are concerned that other residual confounders rel...

Gut microbes in cerebrovascular diseases: Gut flora imbalance, potential impact mechanisms and promising treatment strategies
The high morbidity, mortality, and disability rates associated with cerebrovascular disease (CeVD) pose a severe danger to human health. Gut bacteria significantly affect the onset, progression, and prognosis of CeVD. Gut microbes play a critical role in gut-brain interactions, and the gut-brain axis is essential for communication in CeVD. The reflection of changes in the gut and brain caused by gut bacteria makes it possible to investigate early warning biomarkers and potential treatment targets. We primarily discussed the following three levels of brain-gut interactions in a systematic review of the connections between g...

Stroke risk with vegetarian, low-animal and high-animal diets: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Stroke risk is lower with more use of a vegetarian or low-animal diet but relatively higher with more use of a high-animal diet.PMID:36173214 | DOI:10.6133/apjcn.202209_31(3).0010
