Clinical Characteristics of Patients with Arrhythmias of the Idiopathic Outflow Tract Ventricular: Age, Gender, Comorbidities, Laboratory Test Results, and Echocardiographic Parameters
CONCLUSIONS: The outflow tract served as the major original site of IVAs, and significant differences existed between participants in the LVOT and RVOT groups in age; gender; comorbidities; results of laboratory examinations, including red-blood-cell counts, hemoglobin, creatinine, and GGT; and echocardiographic parameters, including LVEF%, LAD, LVEDD, IVS, and LVPWT.PMID:35687704

Predictive Capability of Metabolic Panels for Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation in Cardiac Surgery Patients
Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) occurs in up to 65% of cardiac surgery patients and is associated with an increased risk for stroke and mortality. Electrolyte disturbances in sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), total calcium (Ca2+), chloride (Cl −), and magnesium (Mg2+) are predisposing factors for POAF, but these imbalances are yet to be used to predict POAF. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the development of POAF can be predicted by blood plasma ionic composition.

Comparison of Serum Selenium Levels Between Patients with Newly Diagnosed Atrial Fibrillation and Normal Controls
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2022 May 9. doi: 10.1007/s12011-022-03281-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained dysrhythmia in the elderly population. It is estimated to affect more than 30 million people worldwide. AF occurs when abnormal electrical impulses start to activate in the atria and override the heart's natural pacemaker, which can no longer control the heart's rhythm. Since atrial contractility is impaired in AF, blood flow in the atria becomes stasis over time and causes thrombus formation. This thrombus causes the risk of embolism and causes complications such as stroke. ...

Triclosan is a KCNQ3 potassium channel activator
Pflugers Arch. 2022 Apr 22. doi: 10.1007/s00424-022-02692-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTKCNQ channels participate in the physiology of several cell types. In neurons of the central nervous system, the primary subunits are KCNQ2, 3, and 5. Activation of these channels silence the neurons, limiting action potential duration and preventing high-frequency action potential burst. Loss-of-function mutations of the KCNQ channels are associated with a wide spectrum of phenotypes characterized by hyperexcitability. Hence, pharmacological activation of these channels is an attractive strategy to treat epilepsy and other hyperexci...
