ZIKA vasculitis: A new cause of stroke in children?
Viral infectious vasculitis is a cause of stroke in children. Zika virus infection is often asymptomatic. Neurological complications have however been reported: Guillain-Barr é, ADEM, meningoencephalitis, myelitis, microcephaly in the fetus of infected mothers. We discuss the case of a child presenting acute infection with ZIKV that was associated with a stroke. A 10-months-old boy without medical history presented after 2days of fever and cutaneous rash, conjunctivitis on day 5, a right hemiparesis on day 6.

Neurological involvement in Chikangunya Virus infection (S40.007)

Following the emergence of Zika in the past decade, there are lessons to be learned from similar emergence events of dengue (DENV) and chikungunya (CHIKV). Specifically, as Zika emerges in the Americas there is a natural tendency to apply the knowledge base of DENV and CHIKV to mitigation and control of a virus with such a similar transmission system. Identification and genetic characterization of Zika virus isolated from an imported case in China.
In this study, we reported the complete genomic sequence of Zika virus strain ZKC2/2016 from an imported case in China, in February 2016. The virus was isolated and virus characteristics were identified by cytopathic effect, quantitative real time-PCR, immunofluorescence assay and electronic microscopy. Next generation sequencing (NGS) technique and 5' and 3' Rapid Amplification cDNA Ends (RACE) PCR were used to sequence the complete genome. What Causes Microcephaly?

Microcephaly is usually defined as an occipitofrontal head circumference (OFC) more than 2 standard deviations (SD) below the mean for sex, age and ethnicity. Severe microcephaly is used for OFC < 3 standard deviations. Rates of microcephaly range from 0.5-12 patients/10,000 live births.
The OFC should be measured at every well child visit and at other opportunities and plotted on standard growth charts. Cerebral infarction due to Zika virus
We read with great interest the letter by Anne Landais and colleagues entitled, “ZIKA vasculitis: A new cause of stroke in children.” [1] The article presents a case of an acute left middle cerebral artery infarct in an eight-month old boy within a few days of symptomatic Zika infection. He had positive Zika PCR in serum followed a few months later by positive Zika IgG and negative Zika IgM. The authors report this as the first case of cerebral infarction associated with Zika infection, broadening the clinical neurologic spectrum of Zika infection.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on January 31, 2018, that Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald would resign as the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The statement read, “Dr. Fitzgerald owns certain complex financial interests that have imposed a broad recusal limiting her ability to complete all of her duties as the CDC Director. Comment The social sciences, humanities, and health
Humanities and social sciences have had many positive influences on health experiences, care, and expenditure. These include on self-management for diabetes, provision of psychological therapy, handwashing, hospital checklists, the Scottish Government's stroke guidelines, England's tobacco control strategy, the response to the Ebola outbreak in west Africa and Zika virus in Brazil, and many more.1 Researchers have shown time and time again the political, practical, economic, and civic value of education and research in disciplines like anthropology, history, and philosophy.
