A systematic review and meta ‐analysis of randomized controlled trials of endovascular thrombectomy compared with best medical treatment for acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsThere is clear evidence for improvement in functional independence with endovascular thrombectomy compared with standard medical care, suggesting that endovascular thrombectomy should be considered the standard effective treatment alongside thombolysis in eligible patients.

Novel TIA biomarkers identified by mass spectrometry ‐based proteomics
ConclusionsUtilizing mass spectrometry‐based proteomics, platelet basic protein has been identified as a candidate serum biomarker for transient ischemic attack. This unbiased proteomic approach may be a promising method to identify novel biomarkers to more precisely diagnose transient ischemic attacks.

Life ‐threatening coronary disease is prevalent in patients with stenosing carotid artery disease
ConclusionsEndarterectomized carotid patients have a high risk of acute myocardial infarction and death, and need an intensified cardiovascular disease‐risk‐lowering treatment. Although asymptomatic, the evaluation of prognostically significant myocardial ischemia should be considered in these high‐risk patients. Eventually, a clinical trial is needed to address whether carotid patients would benefit from early intervention.

Prognostic value of 24‐h ABPM in acute ischemic stroke for short‐, medium‐, and long‐term outcome: a systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionsHigher systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels derived with ambulatory blood pressure monitoring were associated with poor outcome. The same was not found for higher casual blood pressure measurements on admission, and it is possible that ambulatory blood pressure monitoring conveys better prognostic information.

Statistical analysis plan for evaluating low‐ vs. standard‐dose alteplase in the ENhanced Control of Hypertension and Thrombolysis strokE stuDy (ENCHANTED)
ConclusionsWe have developed a predetermined statistical analysis plan for the ENhanced Control of Hypertension And Thrombolysis strokE stuDy alteplase dose arm which is to be followed to avoid analysis bias arising from prior knowledge of the study findings.

Internet‐based information‐seeking behavior for transient ischemic attack
ConclusionsOur study shows that changes in online search behavior can be associated with media coverage of key events (in our case transient ischemic attack) in public figures. These findings suggest that multimedia health promotion campaigns might be more effective, if increased promptly after similar media coverage.

The Clinical Relevance of Microbleeds in Stroke study (CROMIS‐2): rationale, design, and methods
Background and rationaleThe increasing use of oral anticoagulants, mostly to prevent ischemic stroke due to atrial fibrillation in an ageing population, has been associated with a fivefold increased incidence of oral anticoagulant‐associated intracerebral hemorrhage: a rare, serious, and unpredictable complication. We hypothesize that cerebral microbleeds and other markers of cerebral small vessel disease on magnetic resonance imaging, and genetic polymorphisms (e.g. influencing cerebral small vessel integrity or anticoagulation stability), are associated with an increased risk of oral anticoagulant‐associated intracer...

Prevalence of stroke symptoms among stroke‐free residents: first national data from Lebanon
ConclusionsThis is the first study conducted in the Middle East, assessing self‐reported stroke symptoms among stroke‐free residents. Our study showed that almost one in eight residents without a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack has had stroke symptoms. Major vascular risk factors are associated with these symptoms, thus allowing for prevention strategies.
