E-176 Endovascular stent retriever thrombectomy of medium and small vessel occlusion of the middle cerebral artery with acute ischemic stroke: a case series
ConclusionsOur case series demonstrated that SRMT in SVO with disabling NIHSS is feasible and safe if performed carefully. All patient achieved TICI 3 perfusion and first pass effect was better observed in trap technique and use of long solitaire STD. Good function outcomes were achieved in all cases irrespective of the types of SRD used and passes required to achieve TICI 3 perfusion. Further studies are required.Disclosures Y. Lodi: None.

Adaptation to poststroke fatigue in stroke survivors and their care partners: a scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Stroke survivors had many types of challenges and strategies for fatigue adaptation. Survivors received family, employer, and colleague support but how care partners help survivors develop new skills is unknown. Stroke survivors expressed that healthcare professionals need to teach survivors and care partners basic knowledge of fatigue that meet their personal needs and provide adaptive interventions for survivors. Implications for rehabilitationThe challenges of poststroke fatigue are multifaceted because fatigue influences stroke survivors' physical, cognitive, mental, and social aspects of recovery.Stroke s...

Patient-centered simulation: Practicing interprofessional teamwork with standardized patients
J Interprof Care. 2022 Jun 10:1-8. doi: 10.1080/13561820.2022.2069089. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe simulation environment provides opportunities for students to practice interprofessional skills in an authentic, yet safe setting. We discuss an interprofessional learning activity called Team Care Planning designed to teach interprofessional teamwork using a simulated discharge meeting involving an elderly female patient who had a cerebral vascular accident (stroke) and her adult daughter, played by standardized patients Interprofessional teams of health professions students work together to discuss the discharge plan ...

Development of a Nomogram for Predicting Asymptomatic Coronary Artery Disease in Patients with Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: The nomogram, composed of age, sex, NIHSS score on admission, hypertension history, fast glucose level, HDL cholesterol level, LDL cholesterol level, and presence of ≥50% cervicocephalic artery stenosis, can be used for prediction of ≥50% asymptomatic coronary artery disease (CAD). Further studies are needed to validate the effectiveness of this nomogram in other populations.PMID:35570518 | DOI:10.2174/1574887117666220513104303

Arterial Demonstration Device Illustrates Core Physiological Concepts
FASEB J. 2022 May;36 Suppl 1. doi: 10.1096/fasebj.2022.36.S1.R4868.ABSTRACTWe have created a hand-held, interactive arterial demonstration device that simplifies the teaching of several core physiological concepts. The device consists of low breaking point one-way spirometer valve coupled serially to a flow-through latex balloon that is fitted distally with a flow restrictor. The spirometer valve models the aortic valve; the latex balloon models the elastic arteries; the restrictor valve models the peripheral resistance. The user blows vigorously and intermittently into the proximal end of the device, modeling the ventricl...

Effect of a low dose of empagliflozin on short-term outcomes in type 2 diabetics with acute coronary syndrome after percutaneous coronary intervention
CONCLUSION: The results of this study showed that adding low dose empagliflozin to standard care of ACS diabetic patients after PCI was associated with no significant reduction in negative cardiovascular outcomes during 6 months.PMID:35537720 | DOI:10.15537/smj.2022.43.5.20220018
