Atrial fibrillation in critically ill patients who received prolonged mechanical ventilation: a nationwide inpatient report
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of comorbid AF is increasing, particularly in older patients. AF may lead to poorer prognosis, and high-quality intensive care is imperative for this population.PMID:34247459 | DOI:10.3904/kjim.2020.142

Simulation for Neurology training: Acute setting and beyond
Rev Neurol (Paris). 2021 Jul 3:S0035-3787(21)00599-3. doi: 10.1016/j.neurol.2021.03.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSimulation-based training is adapted for teaching neurology, and it can offer multiple programs for general and specialized neurologists. Indeed, simulation training is "learner-centered", assuring sessions tailored to each learner level, and provides a realistic, safe, controlled and reproducible environment to improve knowledge, technical and non-technical skills, including situational awareness, communication, teamwork and leadership. Indeed, simulation tools allow multidisciplinary sessions with differ...

Customizing Robot-Assisted Passive Neurorehabilitation Exercise Based on Teaching Training Mechanism
Biomed Res Int. 2021 May 31;2021:9972560. doi: 10.1155/2021/9972560. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTPassive movement is an important mean of rehabilitation for stroke survivors in the early stage or with greater paralysis. The upper extremity robot is required to assist therapists with passive movement during clinical rehabilitation, while customizing is one of the crucial issues for robot-assisted upper extremity training, which fits the patient-centeredness. Robot-assisted teaching training could address the need well. However, the existing control strategies of teaching training are usually commanded by position merely, havin...

The effects of intensity on a phonological treatment for anomia in post-stroke aphasia
CONCLUSIONS: Although replication in a larger sample is warranted, results suggest that PCA treatment is similarly efficacious when delivered at different intensities. Other factors related to the quality of treatment (i.e., active ingredients such as cue-generation) may play an important role in determining treatment efficacy and must also be considered when comparing treatment intensities.PMID:34166970 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcomdis.2021.106125

Saudi J Kidney Dis Transpl. 2021 Jan-Feb;32(1):199-203. doi: 10.4103/1319-2442.318524.ABSTRACTChronic kidney disease (CKD) and stroke share many common risk factors, and the presence of CKD confers added risk factors for stroke. With increasing interest and understanding of the close relationship between the kidney and the brain, this study aims to assess the prevalence and impact of renal dysfunction on outcomes acute stroke patients. This is a prospective hospital-based study carried out in the neurology unit of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria. The study population consisted of ...
