Body mass index and waist circumference as predictors of recurrent vascular events after a recent ischemic stroke
Obesity is an independent contributor to ischemic stroke incidence. A meta-analysis of 13 studies revealed that a 5 kg/m2 increase in body mass index (BMI) was associated with a 22% increased risk of ischemic stroke in European/North American/Australian cohorts and a 35% increased risk of ischemic stroke among the Asian populations.1 In a meta-analysis of 7 prospective studies, persons in the highest waist circumference (WC) category had a relative risk of 1.41 (95% CI, 1.21 ⁠–1.56) for ischemic stroke compared with persons in the lowest category.

Short-term exposure to air pollution and incidence of stroke in the Women's Health Initiative.
CONCLUSIONS: In this large cohort of post-menopausal US women, daily NO2 and NOx were associated with higher risk of hemorrhagic stroke, but ambient levels of four other air pollutants were not associated with higher risk of total stroke, ischemic stroke, or ischemic stroke subtypes. Stroke incidence and outcome disparity in Rural regions of Southern West Virginia
Conclusions: Stroke incidence and mortality were found to be higher than expected in many areas of rural West Virginia. The higher stroke risk populations correlate with area that may be impacted by socioeconomic factors and limited access to primary care. These high-risk areas may therefore benefit from investments in infrastructure, patient education, and unrestricted primary care.

It can also be caused by a burst of a blood vessel that causes bleeding in the brain. There are also other unknown causes of stroke which occur less frequently. A stroke causes brain cells to die as they no longer receive oxygen and nutrients from the blood. Some of the most common risk factors of stroke are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart diseases, diabetes, smoking, physical inactivity, and obesity[2].

Does bariatric surgery change the risk of acute ischemic stroke in patients with a history of transient ischemic attack? A nationwide analysis
CONCLUSIONS: After analyzing nationwide information, we conclude bariatric surgery helps decrease risk of AIS in patients with a history of TIA. Stroke-related risk factors during pregnancy in women who had metabolic and bariatric surgery compared to women without metabolic and bariatric surgery.
Stroke during pregnancy is rare, occurring in 30 of 100,000 pregnancies, and accounting for 7% of maternal deaths in the United States from 2016 to 2018. Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) have been shown to reduce symptoms of chronic conditions that are risk factors for stroke, including hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes in women. However, little is known about the impact of MBS on stroke risk during pregnancy.
