Relationship between cerebrovascular and valvular manifestations in a Serbian cohort of patients with antiphospholipid syndrome.
CONCLUSIONS: In this cross-section analysis of a large cohort of Serbian APS patients, there was a strong relationship between valvular and cerebrovascular manifestations, suggesting a more cautious approach regarding neurological symptoms, especially in PAPS patients with valvular vegetations present. Age at death of major cardiovascular diseases in 13 cohorts. The seven countries study of cardiovascular diseases 45-year follow-up.
CONCLUSIONS: AD is a useful indicator of previous health and aging populations. STR and HDUE are diseases appearing later in life, thus being associated with a higher AD compared with CHD mortality. PMID: 29570017 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The cutaneous manifestations are significantly related to cerebrovascular in a Serbian cohort of patients with Hughes syndrome.
Conclusion In this cross-section analysis of a large cohort of Serbian APS patients, there was a strong relationship between cutaneous and cerebrovascular manifestations, suggesting a more cautious approach regarding neurological symptoms, especially in PAPS patients with cutaneous manifestations present. The Patterns of Non-vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants (NOACs) Use in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation in Seven Balkan Countries: a Report from the BALKAN-AF Survey
ConclusionsNOACs are increasingly used in AF patients in the Balkan Region, but NOAC use is predominantly guided by factors other than evidence-based decision-making (e.g., drug availability on the market or reimbursement policy). Efforts are needed to establish an evidence-based approach to OAC selection and to facilitate the optimal use of OAC, thus improving the outcomes in AF patients in this large region.

Treatment strategies for carotid artery aneurysms.
CONCLUSIONS: The etiology, location, and morphology of an ECCA are determining selection of appropriate therapy. Large or tortuous aneurysms, as well as aneurysms involving common carotid or proximal internal carotid artery, are also absolutely indicated to open surgical therapy. Aneurysms which involve the distal internal carotid artery and false anastomotic aneurysms are best managed with endovascular techniques. The ligature is indicated for the treatment of external carotid aneurysms, mycotic aneurysms with local infection and in ruptured ECCA with uncontrolled bleeding. PMID: 24866774 [PubMed - in process]

Changes in stroke mortality trends and premature mortality due to stroke in Serbia, 1992–2013
Conclusions From 1992 to 2013, ASRs and YLLs for all stroke showed two segment trends in Serbia, with increase in the first, and decrease in the second period. Due to the shorter AYLLs and longer life tables, in 2013 stroke deaths occurred at >4 years older age in both sexes than in 1992.

Cost-effectiveness analysis of dronedarone versus amiodarone, propafenone and sotalol in patients with atrial fibrillation: results for Serbia.
CONCLUSIONS: Results of our model indicate that dronedarone is cost effective therapy compared with amiodarone, propafenone and sotalol in patients with atrial fibrillation if the outcome is number of years spent without stroke. PMID: 25428811 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The prevalence of COPD co-morbidities in Serbia: results of a national survey.
Conclusion:Our analysis showed that the most prevalent co-morbidities in COPD were hypertension, dyslipidaemia, chronic renal disease and anxiety/depression. The finding suggests that health professionals should actively assess co-morbidities in patients with COPD. PMID: 24921714 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

IS 22. Coupling of motor imagination and nervous system stimulation to induce cortical plasticity
We recently developed a novel technique for inducing plasticity in the human motor cortex by combining the physiologically generated signal when a person imagines a simple dorsiflexion task with the peripheral stimulation of the nerve that innervates the muscle involved in the task (). The subject activates the relevant brain areas via imagination and is provided with the expected afferent feedback via the single peripheral electrical stimulation to the target nerve. This protocol induced significant plasticity only when the afferent volley was timed to arrive during the peak negativity (PN) of the movement-related cortica...
