Multimodal physical training combined with tDCS improves physical fitness components in people after stroke: a double-blind randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSION: Bi-hemispheric cortical tDCS optimized the effects of MPT performed with moderate volume and intensity upon muscle strength, motor function, and cardiorespiratory performance in stroke hemiparetic survivors. (Registration number RBR-22rh3p).PMID:36603594 | DOI:10.1080/10749357.2023.2165260

Edentulism associates with poor cardiovascular health. Results from The Atahualpa Project
Edentulism – used as a proxy for chronic inflammatory periodontal disease – has been linked to an increased risk of adverse vascular outcomes [1]. While the importance of this relationship has been studied in industrialized nations, there is scarce information on its public health impact in underserved populations. Limited access to oral health care and lack of awareness on the repercussions of poor dental habits on systemic health contributes to the problem, and may be one of the factors responsible for the increasing burden of stroke and ischemic heart disease in rural areas of Latin America [2].

Nitric oxide generation by the organic nitrate NDBP attenuates oxidative stress and angiotensin II‐mediated hypertension
Conclusion and implicationsThe novel organic nitrate NDBP halts the progression of angiotensin II‐mediated hypertension. Mechanistically, our findings suggest that NDBP treatment is associated with sustained NO release and attenuated activity of NADPH oxidase, which to some extent requires functional xanthine oxidase. Sex Differences in the Epidemiology of New-Onset In-Hospital Post-Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Atrial Fibrillation: A Large Multicenter Study Original Articles
Conclusions— These novel data on sex-specific characteristics of new-onset AF after isolated CABG show that women had lower adjusted risk for post-CABG AF and experienced shorter episodes. Investigation of sex-specific impacts on outcomes is needed to identify optimal strategies for prevention and management to ensure all patients achieve the best possible outcomes.

The Patterns of Non-vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants (NOACs) Use in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation in Seven Balkan Countries: a Report from the BALKAN-AF Survey
ConclusionsNOACs are increasingly used in AF patients in the Balkan Region, but NOAC use is predominantly guided by factors other than evidence-based decision-making (e.g., drug availability on the market or reimbursement policy). Efforts are needed to establish an evidence-based approach to OAC selection and to facilitate the optimal use of OAC, thus improving the outcomes in AF patients in this large region.

Urine Arsenic and Arsenic Metabolites in U.S. Adults and Biomarkers of Inflammation, Oxidative Stress, and Endothelial Dysfunction: A Cross-Sectional Study
Conclusion: In a cross-sectional study of U.S. adults, we observed some positive associations of uAs and toenail As concentrations with biomarkers potentially relevant to CVD pathogenesis and inflammation, and evidence of a higher capacity to metabolize inorganic As was negatively associated with a marker of oxidative stress. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP2062 Received: 14 April 2017 Revised: 13 November 2017 Accepted: 15 November 2017 Published: 15 December 2017 Address correspondence to S.F. How to Keep Your Home Cool in Extreme Heat
Global temperatures have reached alarmingly high levels across the U.S., Europe, and Asia as heat waves set record highs this week. Parts of European countries including most of Italy, eastern Croatia, southern Spain, southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro are under red alert, the European Union’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre said on Wednesday. Meanwhile, as of July 18, Phoenix had experienced 19 consecutive days of 110°F temperatures or higher. And Beijing is also experiencing a record stretch of 95°F heat.
