Detection of atrial fibrillation in patients with embolic stroke of undetermined source by prolonged monitoring with implantable loop recorders.
In conclusion, AF can be documented in approximately 25 % of patients with the diagnosis of ESUS after careful work-up within a year of monitoring by an ILR and daily remote interrogation. This had important therapeutic consequences (initiation of anticoagulation for secondary stroke prevention) in these patients. PMID: 28862284 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

E-025 The development of a pre-clinical stroke model for stent-retriever thrombectomy
Conclusion The development of a stroke model amendable to mechanical thrombectomy provides a potential paradigm to study neuroprotection strategies coupled with clinical standard-of-care endovascular treatment. Further reproducibility studies are underway. References . JNIS 2012;4:307–313. . Stroke 2015;46:1099–1106. . AJNR2012;33:353–358. Disclosures O. Brooks: None. R. King: None. J. Chueh: None. M. Blood pressure variability at midlife is associated with all-cause, coronary heart disease and stroke long term mortality
Conclusion: In this cohort of tenured male workers, BPV taken over 5 years was clearly associated with 18-year all-cause, CHD and stroke mortality.

Atrial fibrillation in patients with embolic stroke of undetermined source during 3 years of prolonged monitoring with an implantable loop recorder.
CONCLUSIONS: In ESUS patients, early implantation of an ILR with cardiac monitoring and remote transmission over a 3-year period detects AF in 41.4 % and results in oral anticoagulation in 82% of these patients. PMID: 33401327 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

COVID-19 lockdown impact on quality of treatment and outcomes of STEMI and stroke patients in a large tertiary medical center: an observational study
ConclusionThe initial pandemic period caused a decline in HQIs linked to diagnostic and treatment protocols, without changes in outcomes, but with increased hospitalization costs. Medical information and awareness of life-threatening conditions among patients and caregivers should be increased to enable proper diagnosis and management.

Safety Signal Evaluation of a Risk of Syncope and Dizziness Not Related to Bleeding or Stroke in Direct Oral Anticoagulant-Treated Patients
Clin Ther. 2023 Jan 16:S0149-2918(22)00416-7. doi: 10.1016/j.clinthera.2022.12.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: In clinical studies, rivaroxaban treatment has been associated with increased incidence of syncope not related to bleeding, anemia, or stroke. The study objective was to evaluate the occurrence of dizziness and/or syncope not related to bleeding, anemia, or stroke in patients treated with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs).METHODS: A retrospective, observational, comparative study of adult patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and treated with DOACs was conducted using digital retrieval of medica...
