Original Article: Increased Stroke Severity and Mortality in Patients with SARS-CoV-2 Infection: An Analysis from the N3C Database
Studies from early in the COVID-19 pandemic showed that patients with ischemic stroke and concurrent SARS-CoV-2 infection had increased stroke severity. We aimed to test the hypothesis that this association persisted throughout the first year of the pandemic and that a similar increase in stroke severity was present in patients with hemorrhagic stroke.

Factors associated with stroke in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation beyond CHADS2 score.
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated E velocity, E/E' and SD of tA-SR were associated with occurrence of stroke in patients with PAF even with similar CHAD scores. Increased SD of tA-SR and E/E' were independently associated with stroke in patients with PAF.

Linking biomarkers with healthy lifestyle outcomes after stroke: Supplementary Results of a 12-month Randomized Controlled Trial
Participation in a healthy lifestyle intervention such as the Diabetes Prevention Program Group Lifestyle Balance –adapted for stroke (GLB-CVA) may reduce stroke burden. Identifying biomarkers associated with lifestyle changes may enhance an individualized approach to stroke recovery. We investigated metabolic biomarkers related to cardiovascular and neurological function in individuals with stroke in the GLB -CVA study and healthy (non-stroke) individuals.

Type of admission is associated with outcome of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage
ConclusionsSpontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage patients admitted directly to our comprehensive stroke center showed less complications compared to those transferred from general hospitals. This improvement was independent of time to treatment. Additional research in multiple centers using prospective analysis should be conducted to confirm that preferential direct transport to a comprehensive stroke center would likely yield considerable improvements in public health.

Tenecteplase use in the management of acute ischemic stroke: Literature review and clinical considerations
CONCLUSION: Current clinical evidence shows that tenecteplase is not inferior to alteplase for the treatment of ischemic stroke and suggests that tenecteplase may have a superior safety profile. Furthermore, tenecteplase also has practical advantages in terms of its administration. Results of a 12-Month Randomized Controlled Trial Testing the Efficacy of the Diabetes Prevention Program Group Lifestyle Balance (DPP-GLB) for People Post Stroke (GLB-CVA)

Po-05-136 in stroke patients, do baseline electrocardiogram findings correlate with diagnostic findings on long-term monitoring with implantable loop recorder?
In patients with cryptogenic stroke, long-term monitoring is standard-of-care to exclude atrial tachyarrhythmias. Prior studies have not examined interatrial block (IAB) and other ECG markers paired with long-term continuous monitoring (the current gold standard) to predict likelihood of atrial fibrillation (AF) detection in stroke patients.

Questions Regarding a Recent Study Comparing Mitral Regurgitant Volume Between Proximal Flow Convergence and Volumetric Methods: The Importance of Sex Differences
Congratulations to Altes et al.1 on their important publication comparing mitral regurgitant volume by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to echocardiography-derived proximal isovelocity surface area and volumetric regurgitant volume (biplane stroke volume – Doppler stroke volume) data. The biplane data correspond very well with the MRI data. Several of the current authors were part of a 2018 publication comparing mitral regurgitant volume using automated three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography stroke volume data and Doppler stroke volume with mitral regurgitant volume from MRI, which closely correlated with MRI.

Trends in Epistaxis Embolization in the United States: A Study of the Nationwide Inpatient Sample 2003–2010—Caveat Emptor
Endovascular embolization for epistaxis is being used more frequently than it has in the past, and the procedure carries a small risk for stroke. These are the only conclusions that can be reliably drawn from the article by Brinjikji et al . Given the nature of the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database and the design of this study, comparison of outcomes between embolization and surgical ligation is very limited. PPP1R12C Promotes Atrial Hypocontractility in Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with AF exhibit increased levels of PPP1R12C protein compared with controls. PPP1R12C overexpression in mice increases PP1c targeting to MLC2a and causes MLC2a dephosphorylation, which reduces atrial contractility and increases AF inducibility.
