Clinical, socioeconomic, and behavioural factors at age 50 years and risk of cardiometabolic multimorbidity and mortality: A cohort study
ConclusionsThe importance of specific midlife factors in disease progression, from disease-free state to single disease, multimorbidity, and death, varies depending on the disease stage. While clinical risk factors at age 50 determine the risk of incident cardiometabolic disease in a disease-free population, midlife socioeconomic and behavioural factors are stronger predictors of progression to multimorbidity and mortality in people with cardiometabolic disease.

The current and potential health benefits of the National Health Service Health Check cardiovascular disease prevention programme in England: A microsimulation study
ConclusionsOur model indicates that the current NHS Health Check programme is contributing to improvements in health and reducing health inequalities. Feasible changes in the organisation of the programme could result in more than a 3-fold increase in health benefits.

Plasma stem cell factor levels are associated with risk of cardiovascular disease and death
ConclusionsThis prospective population‐based study demonstrates that subjects with high levels of SCF have a lower risk of cardiovascular events and death. Mortality rates in major and subthreshold depression: 10-year follow-up of a Singaporean population cohort of older adults.
CONCLUSIONS: Both major and subthreshold depression were associated with increased mortality, largely due to hazardous behaviours and physical comorbidity. Only major depression per se was independently associated with excess cardiovascular disease and stroke mortality.

Effect of eplerenone on the severity of obstructive sleep apnea and arterial stiffness in patients with resistant arterial hypertension.
CONCLUSIONS Our results provide evidence for the clinical significance of eplerenone, not only as an antihypertensive medication but also as a drug that may reduce the severity of OSA and arterial stiffness in patients with RAH and OSA.

Association of Gallbladder Polyp and Stroke: A Nationwide, Population-Based Study
Abstract: Gallbladder polyp (GP) and stroke share several metabolic disorders as risk factors. We assessed the association between GP and subsequent stroke risk.
From 2000 to 2011, patients with GP aged>20 years were identified from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2000. Of the 15,975 examined patients, 12,780 and 3195 were categorized into the non-GP and GP cohorts, respectively. The relative risks of stroke were estimated using the Cox proportional hazard model after adjusting for age, sex, and comorbidities.
