What Are the Classifications of Perinatal Stroke?
Discussion Perinatal stroke occurs in about 1:1000 live births and is a “focal vascular injury from the fetal period to 28 days postnatal age.” Perinatal stroke is the most common cause of hemiparetic cerebral palsy and causes other significant morbidity including cognitive deficits, learning disabilities, motor problems, sensory problems including visual and hearing disorders, epilepsy, and behavioral and psychological problems. Family members are also affected because of the potential anxiety and guilt feelings that having a child with a stroke presents, along with the care that may be needed over the child&#...

In vitro study about prevention of vascular reocclusion by low intensity ultrasonic irradiation
Drug Discov Ther. 2022 Oct 9. doi: 10.5582/ddt.2022.01064. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFor the treatment of acute ischemic stroke, the current standard of care is thrombolysis by the administration of intravenous (IV) recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator (rt-PA). Although this approach is proven to be effective, reocclusion within 24 hours occurs in about 20% of patients who receive recanalization by rt-PA. In addition, the administration of anticoagulants within 24 hours after IV rt-PA increases the risk of intracranial hemorrhage; therefore, treatment with anticoagulants is contraindicated in this population. ...

Detecting vulnerable carotid plaque and its component characteristics: Progress in related imaging techniques
This study compares existing clinical imaging methods, and the advantages and limitations of different imaging techniques for identifying vulnerable carotid plaque are reviewed to effectively prevent and treat cerebrovascular diseases.PMID:36188371 | PMC:PMC9515377 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2022.982147

Relevance of Carotid Reocclusion in Tandem Lesions
CONCLUSIONS: CRO has a relevant clinical impact in our study, associating lower rates of good functional outcomes at 3 months. Independent factors of CRO were the recanalization degree, presence of pial collateral circulation, use of a stent as a protective factor, and use of general anesthesia during thrombectomy.PMID:35989291 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63560

A Cohort Study on the Safety and Efficacy of Warfarin and Rivaroxaban in Anticoagulant Therapy in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation Study
CONCLUSION: Compared with warfarin, rivaroxaban anticoagulant therapy has the same advantage in tolerance and prevention of thromboembolism in patients with AF, but rivaroxaban can effectively reduce the risk of bleeding in patients with AF.PMID:35845939 | PMC:PMC9283039 | DOI:10.1155/2022/4611383

Plaque Evaluation by Ultrasound and Transcriptomics Reveals BCLAF1 as a Regulator of Smooth Muscle Cell Lipid Transdifferentiation in Atherosclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: Plaque echogenicity correlated with enrichment of distinct molecular pathways and identified BCLAF1, previously not described in atherosclerosis, as the most significant gene. Functionally, BCLAF1 seems necessary for survival and transdifferentiation of SMCs into a macrophage-like phenotype. The role of BCLAF1 in plaque vulnerability should be further evaluated.PMID:35321563 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.121.317018
