2-1-2 stroke microsurgical thrombectomy technique as a tertiary/salvage treatment option
CONCLUSIONS: 2-1-2 MST technique can be rapidly and efficaciously performed in a systemized manner offering a tertiary or salvage technique for acute stroke treatment. Specific microsurgical training is mandatory to accomplish this treatment and larger studies are necessary to confirm our hypothesis.PMID:35147401 | DOI:10.23736/S0390-5616.21.05480-1

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis as a complication of COVID-19 infection - A case report
CONCLUSION: High index of suspicion of CVST is necessary when a patient presents with unexplained neurological manifestation following a recent COVID-19 infection to prevent from life-threatening complications. Furthermore, clinicians should not underestimate the multisystem involvement of COVID-19.PMID:35127077 | PMC:PMC8800506 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.103326

Mechanical Thrombectomy for M1 Subocclusive Thrombus With Lateral Lenticulostriate Artery Occlusion: A Case Report and Literature Review
This article describes a treatment strategy for M1 subocclusive thrombus, focusing on the indications for mechanical thrombectomy. A 58-year-old male on admission for pneumonia had a sudden onset of dysarthria and motor deficits. He has a history of dilated cardiomyopathy and underwent left ventricular assist device implantation 3 years ago. At onset, his National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score was nine. Computed tomography angiography demonstrated a filling defect in the distal right M1 segment of the middle cerebral artery. Angiography confirmed the presence of a subocclusive thrombus within the distal r...

Late-Onset Vaccine-Induced Immune Thombotic Thrombocytopenia (VITT) with Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis
A previously healthy 42-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with acute onset fluent aphasia. Further clinical examination was unremarkable. Emergency computed tomography (CT) of the head showed two small intracranial hemorrhages of the left temporal lobe and a hyperdense cerebral sinus. CT venogram confirmed cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) of the left vein of Labb é and sigmoid and transversal sinus (Fig. 1). As the paramedic reported ChAdOx1 nCOV-19 (AZD1222) vaccination 2 weeks before, vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) was suspected and the patient was treated with intravenous ...

Arterial intracranial thrombosis as the first manifestation of vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT): a case report
We describe a severe case of vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) after the first dose of the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine leading to massive ischemic stroke.MethodsA 42-year-old woman developed acute left hemiparesis (NIHSS 12) 9  days after the first vaccine dose.ResultsThe blood tests revealed low platelets (70 103/ μL) and severe increment of D-dimer (70,745 ng/mL FEU). Brain non-contrast computed tomography and multiphasic CT angiography demonstrated a right middle cerebral artery occlusion. The patient was treated with primary thrombectomy, steroids, immunoglobulin, and fondaparinux. Despite the tr...

Importance of computed tomography angiography in acute/hyperacute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSION: In the evaluation of patients with acute/hyperacute strokes, CTA provides important information, identifying occlusion, as well as helping define the etiology and inform decisions regarding treatment.PMID:34866695 | PMC:PMC8630949 | DOI:10.1590/0100-3984.2020.0168
